My 8" Noveske Load development notes and help requested

Post by Sabot42 »

I am going to copy this to the handload forum as well because I need help finding a load that will work with my setup.

Gun Setup:

Noveske Upper (switched out the LMT pictured)
Noveske 8" BLK barrel
DD 7.0 rail
RRA SBR Lower
Standard carbine buffer and spring
SWR Omega 30 Can

Image

Ammo Test Results: All rounds fired with a single round in the mag)

208 AMAX with 8.5g of Lil Gun UNSuppressed - FTF/lock open
208 AMAX with 11.5g of H110 Suppressed - FTF/Lock open
208 AMAX with 11.2g of H110 Suppressed - FTF/Lock open
125 Nosler with 18.5g of H110 UNSuppressed - FTF/Lock open
125 Nosler with 18.5g (and 18.2) of H110 Suppressed- Locked Open (forgot to try a multi-round mag)

NOTE: Chronograph crapped out, so no FPS today unfortunately.

GOALS:
Develop a subsonic round that will cycle with my 9mm can on it (not the Omega 30 b/c it isn't mine)
Develop a supersonic load that will cycle unsuppressed.

Thoughts on the setup and loads are welcome.

My concern about pushing the sub loads harder is that in order to get them to cycle they will go super and can't be used with my can (which would somewhat defeat the purpose)

THANK YOU!!!

Use A1680 for the subs. I'm not sure if you can get enough pressure in the pistol silencer for a 208gr load to cycle reliably. You may need to go to 220gr bullet.

For the supersonic, can you describe the failure better?

Thanks for the reply!

With the supers, I shot the Nosler 125s with and without the can on. With the can I got the bolt hold open, without it I did not. I only tested using 1 round in the magazine, so i can't say for sure if it would have cycled or not, only that it didn't recoil far enough to lock open on the last round. Am I answering your question?

Did you only use the 20 round Pmag for the test?

Your supersonic loads should run just fine.

Try a GI mag. Check for any drag in the cycling.

Take the bolt out and check that the carrier slides onto the gas tube without drag.

Check your trigger for drag. On an empty chamber pull the trigger. Without releasing the trigger pull the bolt to the rear. You should be able to feel the hammer cock but should not feel any drag after that.

Next Steps:

I removed 1 weight from the buffer
I will try a GI mag with multiple rounds loaded
I did the checks you described and didn't feel any drag, but I'm not sure I would be able to know for sure

I bought some A1680 today and plan to load up some 220 grain subs around 11.5gr and some more 125s with a diff OAL and 19.2gr

If none of this works, I don't know for sure what's next. If I know me, I'll part out the upper and buy a Micro 7.

UPDATE: Switched to 1680 and removed one weight from the standard carbine buffer and it eats everything just fine. Supers cycle without the can (using the H110 125 Nosler loads previously tried) and 208 AMAX subs cycled in every charge tried.

THANKS
