subsonic bolt gun 110 gr carbine sp load

Post by JohnInNH »

I found a bunch of old 110 gr rn soft point bullets in my reloading room.

Decided to use some faster powder than w231 for the light plinker bullet

AAC Micro7 16" barrel
m 1 carbine 110 gr soft point bullet (Sierra #2100)
Alliant American Select powder 4.2-4.3 grains (In colder weather, 25 deg drop to 3.9 gr)
OAL= 1.835"

Subsonic . A fun subsonic plinking load.

FYI .. 4.6 gr went supersonic

Good clean burn

Here was my recipe for 125gr noslers.

17.5 Gr of H110
Remington 7.5 primers
COAL 2.076

Sorry, no chrono data on these but I shot 160rds of this through my 8in Noveske upper and it ate them all up no problem. Cases had no signs of overpressure.
I chronographed something close today. Altitude 4,000 feet. Temp 40 degrees.
125 Gr Nosler green tip BT
17.5 Gr H110/W296
CCI 400 primers
OAL 2.130
Average velocity was 2140 fps.

Shot through a DSArms 16" upper with carbine gas system. 1" at 110 yards.

This is going to be my setup... What DS Arms upper did you go with , S.S. or chrome-moly? If chrome-moly, is the barrel chrome-lined?

I currently have 130gr, what would you suggest to get similar velocities (#gr, and OAL)?

With the 125 TNT w296 19 gr is listed as max in my book for the whisper at published 2000 fps. 22gr was to hot at 2355 fps, but in my micro7 20 gr of 296 seemed to be ok w/o pressure signs. I got 2300 fps (2315 hi 2289 low)

This is my 125 gr supersonic load. Still searching for a 150 gr load.

The 130-125 gr seem to be about right.

I have found consensus around that 19gr of h110/w296 with 130gr. is about the way to go. I wish I had a chrono for my first attempts at reloading... I am really attempting to get the exact same ballistics as a 7.62x39 out of an AK47 16" barrel.

What is your OAL? Is it the same as listed above (2.190)?

Has anyone found a good subsonic recipe using the 175 grain mil spec bullets from Widener's? http://wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item ... |1081|1161

I have a ton of these sitting around and hope that you guys can give me some good news!!

I would like to get a good subsonic load using these bullets, but if I am forced to use 200 grain + rounds to get a consistent round that cycles my gun I guess I'll have to go that route.

I am not sure what type of bullets he was using but Aaron said he got 175 to work.

My upper cycles 178 Amax and 180 grain SP like a champ but it has a pistol length gas system and and adjustable gas block. But I think the gas system length has more to do with its' consistency because I haven't touched the gas block and it runs both subsonic and supersonic in these weights. But I may be wrong.

Just put my 300 BLK together. Used a CMMG carbine gas, 16" 8 twist barrel from Midway and screwed it onto a AP flat top upper.
Loading cut down LC brass, Magtec 7 1/2 primers, 18.5 grains of H110 and a Speer 130 grain hollow point. Loaded to a COL of 2.0030
Unknown velocity. 5 shots went just under 2 MOA at 100 yards. Lots of things were not right when I shot this am.( lousy front support, loose flash hider, etc) I know the rifle/ load will shoot much better, closer to 1MOA for sure. The recovered bullet went through a 1/2 gal plastic milk jug, into a 1 gal plastic milk jug, then bouncing off a sheet of plywood. I found it on the ground at the base of the plywood. Recovered weight: 108.9 grains.
