But really, the Magpul grip does not count as a grip for the purposes of NFA?

I think he is making a pistol gripped weapon over 26" so it's not an AOW.

For using the AFG with an OAL less than 26" there is an ATF opinion on record:

An AOW has to be concealable, the ATF holds the 26" OAL as the measure of it. Over 26" and unless it is concealed on you it is not considered concealable, thus cannot be an AOW.

In the same way that the pic above is NOT a shotgun by legal definition (shotguns and rifles are designed to be fired from the shoulder) it can have a barrel less that 18" if the OAL is 26", it is just a "firearm" under the GCA and does not meet the definition of anything in the NFA.

Very nice. Trying to decide between a 16" rifle or a 9-11" pistol for my first 300 Blackout.
