Yes, they need to be pressed on but not with a press. You can use a tube (to center the force) and a mallet. You can add some oil to the barrel to help.
To give you an idea of how much force is needed, on the press in the photo, the weight of the handle was enough to press it on.

are there any set screws or pins to put in. Or is this just a pure pressed on fit? I would think it would pressed on pretty tight to keep it from moving if that was it.

It has set screws and dimples which help you align it through the holes.
