I just hate wasting that energy potential.

Would a 16 inch barrel be fine for super and supressed?
Nothing at all wrong with a 16", other than a it's a bit cumbersome with a suppressor attached.

I figured that would be the case but the energy gains from 10 to 16 is around 200 with the various loads.
I dont see myself using subs all that often.

I had a 16 inch barrel and currently own a 10 inch barrel AR. Around 250 fps difference with my loads of 110 v-max.

You have fundamental misunderstanding of energy potential.

I don’t care how heavy a bullet is or how fast it’s going, every ounce of potential energy is wasted if you don’t know where to put it, or can’t. This is not a cartridge problem, a barrel length problem or a bullet problem. It is now, always has been, and always will be, a guy that pulls the trigger problem.

You need to match bullet design and weight for the distance and creature you will be killing. That has to be matched to your ability.

Once you have that information, then someone can advise what might be your best tool for the job.

The recommended on target energy by the book for medium sized game is 1000 pounds. That means impact velocity needs to be

110 grain, 2000 fps
125 grain, 1875 fps
150 grain, 1725 fps.

That means by the book a Barnes 110 in a 16” barrel @ 2400 fps. has an effective range of about 125 yards, and 75 yards in a 9” based on 2200 fps.

If you compare that to a Speer 150 Gold Dot
16” barrel MV 2150 fps, 250 yards
9” barrel MV 1950 fps. 150 yards.

Somewhere in between is a 125 grain bullet.

You gain more energy by adding bullet weight, than barrel length, if you use both the gain per inch past 22 is almost pointless, but can help with accuracy.
300 Blackout, not just for sub-sonics.

I was referring to foot pounnds energy not velocity or fps. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

There is also about a 200 foot pounds of energy lost.
Which can be significant.

Hmmm.... that narrows the gap in was seeing on the video. Definitely food for more thought. What is the comparable fps?

Thanks for your input
