Anybody else shooting one and having problems with it totally beating the snot out of the brass? Worst cartridge I've ever loaded for.

Re: 22 Nosler
cant say i've considered adding one to the collection yet.
i tend to not be an early adopter. i like to let everyone else work out the bugs and then jump on board once a system is proven itself a bit.
that said - can you show us some pics of the damage?
rim damage? ejector swipes? what are we talking about when it comes to "beating the snot out of the brass"
just like everything else we're gonna need some data to help you out
specifics on the gun - buffer weight, carrier (m16/ar15), gas block (adjustable or not), gas system length, barrel length, muzzle device - that kinda stuff
specifics on the ammo - factory or handloads? if handloads... what powder, primer, bullet, etc...

Re: 22 Nosler
I'd like to know this also since I am considering building one next.
What do you mean beating the snot out of the brass?
Ever shoot a Mini 14?

Re: 22 Nosler
This guys video explains it,although he chalks it up to a rough chamber but I'm not buying that. I don't think he ever says what brand barrel it is. The rims on about half of my brass is so distorted it won't go in my Lee Auto Prime shell holder so I have to prime on the press(which I never do). It is an AR Stoner 18" upper, rifle length gas with a triple tungsten buffer. Factory ammo and handloads are the same as far as damage. Maybe this winter I'll tear it down and try to polish the chamber. If I had it to do over again I think I'd pass. Made the same mistake with the 243 WSSM!

Re: 22 Nosler
Honestly you are describing an over gassed gun. The bolt is trying to extract the casings that are still sealed to the chamber walls.

Re: 22 Nosler
I've been thinking my only fix is an adjustable gas block.

Re: 22 Nosler
Ok. To revive this thread, I have completed my 22 Nosler build and have had some excellent results with my loads.
Yes brass does get beaten pretty good on factory loads but for the 60 and 75 grain loads I am happy with my brass comes out just fine. None of the extractor marks that factory rounds produce.
If anyone is interested I can start a thread on my experiences so far.

Re: 22 Nosler
What barrel/gas system are you using? Adjustable gas block? I gave up on the Nosler brass, got a 6.8 bolt and went the NosGar route. Problems went away. Now just need to do some chrono time.

Re: 22 Nosler
I have a heavy BA Performance series barrel, 24", 8 twist with a rifle length tube using a Superlative Arms adjustable gas block.
Standard weight rifle buffer with a Wolfe reduced power spring.
Factory 55 grain loads don't give me extractor marks but the 77 grain loads do.
The 55 gr factory gave me chrono readings up to 3600 fps usually averaging at around 3400 fps so yes, they are loaded hot or I have a fast barrel.
My best load so far is the 75 grain Hornady match loaded with 29.5 grains of CFE 223 at 3060 fps.
5 round group at 100 yards gave me a .228" group and no extractor marks.
