Cast bullets for AR

Post by Woodsmoke »

Does anyone know whether coated cast bullets from Missouri Bullets or Leatherhead will feed in an AR? I wanted to hear from others experience before I buy something that may not work.
Thanks

Woodsmoke,

We have shipped 10's of thousands of our projectiles to AR shooters across the country. Some have minor feeding issues that are generally related to the choice of magazine, case OAL, and /or powder. Please feel free to give me a call with any questions etc. I will gladly share any information regarding reloading set up, mag choices, etc. to get you up and running.

Thanks for your consideration,

I've shot about 500 245s from Missouri Bullet Co without a problem. I have filed the ribs out of the PMags and labeled "300 BLK" in silver sharpie. Very Happy.

I've shot several hundred Leatherhead. You're probably going to have to load them shorter than you think, like I did. I believe most people are shooting them ~1.90-2.00.

I have shot about 1000 of the missouri 245's through my SBR and 16" carbine.

I have shot many of the Leatherhead bullets, mostly with my 10.5" Noveske. I don't think I have had any feeding/cycling issues with them through the Noveske. My upper with the 16" PSA (FN Barrel) usually hangs up on the very last one, but I have not used it enough to see if I could correct that. With no supporting round under it, I think the last round has just enough tilt for the flat nose to catch on the chamber face. My Noveske chamber is more funnel shaped, which I think is a good reason why the flat nose bullets run so well with it.

I think most likely they will work fine, and if not, a small tweak can fix it.
300BLK AR-15 with 10.5" Noveske barrel (1:7 pistol length gas)

300BLK 16" AAC Handi Rifle (1:7 twist)

300BLK 16" AR-15 with 16" PSA FN barrel upper (1:8 pistol length gas)

I just jumped into the PC ring(powder coat not politically correct)

Don't know if I will PC the whole bullet (Lee 230gr 5R) or just the lube groove section.
Might try both to see how they work.
