Loading cast Lee 160 grain

Post by dieselherb »

I'm loading Lee 160 grain bullets to 1.82 OAL. This is at the chimp line on the bullet, H110 15 grain bullet maybe just touches powder. Is that too short? I have loaded 230 grain to 2.095 OAL, they work great. I bought some Winchester 220 grain they are 2.14 OAL

Whata re you trying to achieve? Why would you think too
Long or Too short?

Oal max is 2.260. Some bullets simply cannot be loded there. Most anything is acceptable IF IT FEEDS.

Have you made up dummies to test feeding?

Some of mine load just over 2" but nost often longer is needed to properly feed. Nearly Totally dependent upon profile of your bullet.

I have 6/8 molds working for the black out.

Seems ever time I get a shooter it wont feed and most that will I have yet to find a load.

So far the LEE 230 just suks foe me.

The Lyman 313299 shows promise. Feeds beautifully.

The 311299 was small

The 311335 is a blunt (er) tip profile. Feeds real well.

The 311041 is a FP and iffy feeding (Shoots great)

NOE 165RD HP shoots best EVER/YET but refuses to feed. 15g 3031 shoots into one ragged 40 cal hole at 50 yards.

Lee 312-155-2R is showing promise enough I cast up 400+ Saturday. ;) Feeds beautifully.

Ideal 308329 290g pointy spitzer. Feeds Beautifully. But is a single cav mold so producing fodder will be slow and tedious. I dont "want" it to be the one. ;)

311008 is a nice plinker and I have another about same weight but diff profile thats same. Both feed OK.

Just need to find that magic load that makes ya smile.

MOST of these are shot super sonic but as some weigh 200+ they aren't speedy. ;)

I've had good luck with Lee 230 feeding, haven't check accuracy yet. Wouldn't need to shoot more than 50-75 yards

CW - you try lancer mag? I shoot the 31-172c much like the rd, Works fine. I don't use pointy cast - not worth the bother.FP has lower BC but even does good in 308 @ 200.

No I dont have Lancers.

I do have a few brands none seemed to make any difference. And one is a Ruger rotary mag.

I have the LEE 312 160 TL. I have been trying to get it right for a while now.
At 1.900 OAL it feeds fine. I have tried 296 and H-110 from 13 to 15.5 but haven't been able to get under a 6 inch group at 75 yards. At 15.3 I get 1735 fps. Has anyone gotten better with this bullet?

I want to get the LEE 230 but can't find one now.

H335 was a flop

AA2230 was a flop

2400 was a flop

1680 was OK not great. But useable.

3031 is a WINNER!!

Need to hover around 16g up and down to fine tune.

But its shot beautiful 1/4" single hole group for me today!
