Even with powder coating it just doesn't seem to work for some people. Me included.

The Lee 230 works pretty well when PC'd. I'm going to mill out the boat tail, some of the samples I've seen dropped closer +/- to 230gr+ and were quite accurate. My cast ones weigh at about 225 ish after coating, this with about 14-16 BHN. DS's 265 is waiting in line of several dozen other projects ahead of the BLK.

Revisiting this one.

Built a “new” 300 and it’s renewed Interest in inexpensive cast fodder.

I have rejected the LEE 230. Simply couldn’t get consistency sub nor super with about a doz powders and five different t 300’s. I still have the mold but remember most of what I cast. I stumbled upon a Lyman 165 pointed bullet. (Don’t remember it’s numbers) But it’s a GC and drops about .310 with my alloy. I also PC it. This one can shoot!!!! Subs and supers! Darn near the accuracy of the jacketed at respectable velocities. Subs never tripped my trigger for accuracy but these are better than 2” @ 50 so shootable for sure.

I am gonna spend some time on the NOE, Accurate & Arsenal wed sites looking for a PB Mold about the same as that Lyman. If all else fails Mountain molds will cut me exactly what I desire.

I am almost 100% a reloader meaning I don’t buy commercial ammo. Last weekend I ordered 100rnds of a couple commercial sub sonic ammo to try... We shall see.

The MP 311-140 is an awesome boolit. It casts a 140 gr solid and a 123 gr deep hollow point.

170gr (31-168C) PB FP PCd over 8.5gr A2400, 10" AR pistol 50/50 alloy works good for me. 1"x2" @ 50, one mississpi - 2 mississipi 10 shot mag dump - just sitting at bench. ~1400 fps. Actually intended for 30/30 but works great in BO.

That sounds very similar to one of the loads I use. Lyman model 311041. Lee 6cav clone. Plain base flat point for 30-30. I shoot it supersonic over 18.5 grains of h110. It's definitely a stout load but no pressure signs. I also shoot it subsonic. Out of a bolt gun it prints pretty neatly at 9.5 grains of imr 4227. I have been interrupted by recent events from working it down to a reliable subsonic load in semi-auto AR. I guess as it'll be somewhere around 10.5 grains of 4227. I made the loads but I have not tested them yet.
I will as soon as I figure out a place that the government hasn't closed down.
. Incidentally I was traded at a second lee 230 mold. This one shoots. That one gives me subminute groups so far over 9.5 of 4227, WSR primer. So I'm fairly happy with it. It's still not fast enough for me casting in a two cavity mold to be really happy. I still plan to get the NOE taco mold when I am able.

I cast up six different 30 bullets this weekend. Some required deeper seating than I wanted. Couple three wouldn’t feed at all. Three are good and two are stand outs.

First is a LEE group buy spitzer simular to the 155 they offer today. Drops closer to 157 with my WW alloy.

Second is a old IDEAL 308329 mold. It drops just north of 190g and is very pointy.

The last is a Lyman Mold #314299. It drops 210 ish and .315. Lyman offers a .311 version and I have both difference is at driving bands nose dims & weight are same @ 300/.301.

The LEE requires slight deep seat after powder coat. But the Ideal and Lyman can be stated as intended at crimp groove. 2.10 and 2.110 respectively.

These are plinkers/shooters for me. I’ll load to super mostly but also sub. Was hoping for closer to 150’s. But this is what I have. (Borrowed molds W/ Corvid I get what I’m given, and happy to get it!)

Any one shot either of these?
