Casting for a Noveske poly barrel?

Post by strobro32 »

I'm considering options for bullet casting for my 8" Noveske SS SBR with a sealed suppressor. I read that Noveske's people say it's OK to shoot lead through their poly barrels.

I've been researching a lot lately here about custom bullet molds and PC cast bullets that require no lube or gas checks. I don't want to fill my suppressor with lead or damage it with the checks. I've never cast before but this experimentation and the challenge really appeals to me.

Here are some questions I have.

1. Has anyone slugged a Noveske SS poly barrel and was the diameter?
2. Do cast bullets that are powder coated, need bullet lube grooves"
3. Do powder coated bullets need to have a smaller/ larger after sizing for the powder coating in a poly barrel?

Thank you all for contributing to this interesting cast and PC work.
If it doesn't splatter, shatter, burst, boing or explode, it's not worth shooting.

I am shooting a 10" Noveski .. with great success ..
Mil hec 312-159 and Lee 230's both powdercoated and sized 311.. my bore measured 308 on the dot

Ps The Mil hec 312 is a gas check bullet but I powdercoat nose down and do not use gas checks

just killed a 6 point Monday at 67 yds with clean pass thru 98/2 alloy

and a spike this morning with a 458 socom and cast bullet Pc'ed nose down no gas check running 1583 FPS

my rule of thumb on powder coated bullets is sized .002 to .003 over bore size .. and that has worked well for me in about 6 guns so far

I am shooting the NOE 311365 (198 gr.) spire point cast bullets through
my Noveske 12.2" with good success. I do not powder coat yet, but I do
use the Hi-Tek bullet coating which is a 2-part epoxy paint that is baked
on just like powder coat. I bought a pound of powder to try as well.

Thank you guys. That is great info for a noob.

I look forward to seeing more results of the Hi-Tek system.

OK. it's time to begin my bullet casting journey .

I was considering purchasing the Kaine 220 grain .30 smooth walled bullet mold, Lee 20 lbs melter, LEE bullet lubrication and sizing kit and HF powder coating kit.

Question:

Do I want to purchase the .311 mold, powder coat and size to .311? What is the combo I need for my SS poly Noveske barrel?

That is what I prefer to do. I think it gives better results than casting smaller and trying to build up to size with the powder coat.

Be aware that you'll probably see very little terminal effect/damage from that bullet you describe, (assuming 300 Blk, subsonic) unless you have it hollow pointed and/or learn to cast two part bullets.

Go for 312 and size down to what you need. Alloy & mould temp make a difference in as cast size.
