The 220 smk is only going to be going pistol velocities and there for while I wouldn't want to get hit by it, its like an FMJ pistol round. The vmax is definitely going to do much more damage. Look up some you tube videos. I've seen several that show subs and supers in the same video. One shows a melon getting hit by a sub, which passes right through, like an fmj pistol bullet. Then a supersonic vmax blows the melon into fruit juice. Very cool.
Maybe I didn't word it properly.
I'd like to see what a 208gr A-max does at subsonic velocities.
If they make a .308 bullet for it, I can load it. The 208 A-max is doing great on pigs. We are getting many pass-though's with it. The 110 V-max does ok, and will provide flatter trajectory. The best option is the 110 grain Barnes Tipped TSX bullet for pigs. It will give you very deep penetration. For deer, any of the options should work fine.
Some other subsonic options I can load are Hornady's 225 grain BTHP, 220 grain Sierra Matchking.
For supersonic, any of the tipped/pointed bullets from 125 to 180/190 grain weights. The most common are the 110 V-max and TTSX, and some of the 125 and 135 grain variations. The bullets need to be tipped ot pointed so they will feed in the AR platform. The 220 grain RN bullet is for bolt guns.
