So I am building a 300 BLK AR and it will be used primarily for deer hunting. The rifle will be firing supersonic ammunition (I have no need to run it suppressed in the middle of nowhere ND ) With that being said, am I right to assume that I should go with the carbine length gas system? Also as far as a muzzle brake is concerned, CMMG threads it 5/8"-24, correct?
Any help would be great.

If you are only shooting supersonic, then carbine length gas would be the best choice.Drefizzle wrote:So I am building a 300 BLK AR and it will be used primarily for deer hunting. Yes the threads on the CMMG barrel are 5/8X24.

Re: CMMG stripped barrel question.
I saw that post. Fortunately I have no complaints with my CMMG barrel. I have it attached to a White Oak Armament receiver and I am running a FailZero bolt carrier group in it. So far it has been 100% reliable without any failures or malfunctions after putting more than 500 rounds of factory ammo through it (I don't want to handload my own ammo). With the nitrided finish I think the barrel will probably accurately shoot thousands more long after I am dead. Add in the decent price compared to other manufacturers. For my purposes this barrel is a good balance of quality and affordability. There are probably other people out there who agree with me.
I understand that guy's frustration, and he has every right to be pissed at CMMG. But I have the same type of need as DreFizzle; we only want to shoot supersonic. My particular location (New Jersey) prevents me from owning a suppressor, so owning subsonic doesn't really make sense to me when there is a nice selection of supersonic choices that I can easily find with a Google search.
Re: CMMG stripped barrel question.
Stay away, away, away from CCMG BCG. Overall, decent guns for the price but they are majorly lacking in bolt quality. They use 9310 steel vs Carpenter 518 and they don't test the bolts in any way. No shot peen, MPI, or HPT! Even Stag arms is doing that these days.

Re: CMMG stripped barrel question.
^ This is probably why I am not having any problems with my upper and CMMG barrel. I don't use the CMMG BCG. Avoiding their BCG and choosing a higher quality and tested one will probably prevent most reliability issues. But with all things you buy, YMMV.C2_Drew wrote:Stay away, away, away from CCMG BCG. No issues with mine either. I have only shot subsonic so far. Waiting on two different orders of supersonic ammo to ship. The only CMMG part I am using Is the barrel. The rest is Smith & Wesson and DMPS.

Nice, the lower half of mine is a Smith & Wesson M&P15ipittythefoo wrote:The rest is Smith & Wesson and DMPS.
It's good to see that not everyone is having problems with subsonics in their CMMG barrelsipittythefoo wrote:No issues with mine either. I have only shot subsonic so far...The only CMMG part I am using Is the barrel.
