AAC switching to keymod, finally?

Post by A-Game »

http://www.advanced-armament.com/AAC-Sq ... p_710.html

This is an AAC proprietary handgaurd called SquareDrop Handgaurd. It is made in 8", 11.2", and 13.5"
It is black anodized and appears to be lightweight. The design looks to be a modified version of the keymod spec and will accept standard keymod accessories.
They do make a 3" aluminum pic rail that does not come with the Handgaurd.

Length: 8", 11.2" (11.15") or 13.5" (13.51")
Outer Diameter: 1.75"
Inner Diameter: 1.30"
Weight: 6.35 oz, 9.0 oz, 10.45 oz
Free Float: Yes

Pricing and weight is comparable to BCM keymod rails. BCM Handgaurds come with a nylon pic rail not aluminum.

I like it better than their KAC offerings. I'm more of a slim handguard guy.

The goal was to be KeyMod compatible, but also look good by getting rid of the key-hole shape.

BCM and I guess now AAC will end up being the holdouts still using Keymod after everyone else has switched to M-Lok.

Knights Armament and Noveske are also using keymod as well as a lot of other companies.

It isn't a hold out when there is a large demand for it.

Are you just trying to say you think keymod sucks and mlock rules because that's what you have or did the military place an order for 100 million mlock rails that is causing the demise of competition in the free market?

Edit:
Xbox or play station? Apple or Android? 5.56 or 300 blackout? 9mm or .40? Sumsung or Sony or Visio?

Everyone has preferences.

I heard that the BCM magnesium and aluminum keymod rails could crack and that's why they switched to the keymod alpha. Keymod and mlock are both proprietary attachment methods that do the same function.

Attach a light, a forward grip, and A bipod. The rest of the sights, lasers, and pink fuzzy dice attach at 12 o'clock and don't care if it's keymod or mlock.

Just curious. But don't really care because I'm stuck doing coursework and I'm procrastinating finishing it! I'm not trying to come off as trying to pick a fight with ya Net, just in case it sounds that way

Well, I did kind of wonder why you seemed to be taking my comment personally... Somebody wants to buy keymod, as they say, it neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg. Actually I was going to go with keymod for my only AR and an ex sf guy on another group I'm on talked me out of it on the basis of it having been banned from submission to the "block 3 sopmod trials" whatever that is. Then after I'd bought my upper with the M-Lok rail, there was a thread with several guys bitching about how their keymod attachments had failed and they would never buy a rifle using that system again. I assume this is where a keymod fanboy would say something about correct installation, but I will note that I have never seen those sort of complaints about M-Lok.

Although while I am here I will take the opportunity to say that after having had my SDN-6 for a little over a year now, I kind of wish I had never even heard of AAC. I've bought a couple of their barrels which seem to be very well done, but their 51t mounting system blows goats. Out of the 5 rifles I own with mounts for my can, it locks up tightly on exactly one of them. The Saker I should have bought in the first place should be out of jail soon and at that point I'm basically going to dedicate the AAC can to the one rifle that seems to like it. Also the threaded length of their "derp" socket mounts is too short to allow the mount to seat against the barrel shoulder with standard 5/8-24 threads, even on their own barrels. I've had to add shims under both of their 5/8 mounts I have, not for timing, but just to get the mount to seat on the shoulder and not the muzzle face.
