I have fired the MPW with 9" and 16" barrels. I have never even seen a 12.5". I would like to hear from those who have a 12.5". Why did you choose that barrel length? What do you like and dislike? Accuracy? Reliability?
Thank you,
Bill

I would also like to hear the answer to this question, as I have a 12.5 inch upper available to me?DeaneM1A wrote:I have fired the MPW with 9" and 16" barrels. I have never even seen a 12.5". A little more velocity. More handguard if you like to hold your arm our farther. A little more accuracy on average.
I prefer the 9 inch but there are people who test them both and go with the 12.5.

Re: AAC MPW 12.5"
Thanx for the reply, is the 12.5 inch still short enough to add a suppressor and carry it for LE type work. I intend to use it for anti poaching work in nature reserves here in South Africa. So not kicking in doors and clearing rooms. It will be carried for extended periods in the bush.300Blk wrote:A little more velocity. More handguard if you like to hold your arm our farther. The 9 inch looks very short to me, and it would have to be ordered, there is a 12.5 inch on the shelf I could buy now. I am interested to hear what others think about which length upper will suit my application?
Does the 12.5 inch have much better ballistic performance over the 9 inch?
Re: AAC MPW 12.5"
12.5 has significantly better ballistic performance, but I would not say much better. They can both be very accurate, but if you took 10 of each and did detailed testing, on average, the 12.5 would be more accurate.
A 9 inch with a suppressor is about as long as a 16 inch barrel with no suppressor.
I am not sure what I would do. Many professional users prefer the 12.5. You should probably get the 12.5 and start using it.

I like the added handguard length of the 12.5"
I also find the 12.5" barrel to be very nimble and fun to shoot.
With good handloads and using an Eotech (no magnifier), I can get between 1.13" to 1.87" five shot groups off the bench with 125gr TMK or TNT bullets.

At what distance, obviously that is supersonic?Col. Cornelius wrote:I like the added handguard length of the 12.5"

1.13" to 1.87" five shot groups off the bench at 100 yards
Yes, the ammo is super sonic, clocking about 2,100 fps.

Re: AAC MPW 12.5"
I run a 9" gun and like it alot, but the handguard is a little short. Forcing a somewhat cramped shooting position. The 12.5" gun has a longer fore end and would be a more comfortably gun if the ultra compact 9" is not needed.
For strictly outdoor usage, id go 12.5" and take advantage of the slightly higher velocities with supersonic ammo. I wouldnt expect a huge gain, but every little bit helps at distance.

Re: AAC MPW 12.5"
I have both 9 & 12.5
12.5 provides more velocity (I use my 9 inch for subsonic), has more rail space for forward optics (laser, ClipOn), yet i a little shorter than a 16 so OAL is not bad when silencer is on it.
