Good point, Robert. A 23W CFL bulb in my closet puts out 1600 lumens.

I use an old model X300, which is rated at 170 lumens, on my M4 carbine. That is enough light to investigate when things go bump in the dark. However, the new X300 Ultra is 500 lumens and that is what I urge you to buy. This is a simple to use, extremely reliable light. You will not do better in my humble opinion.
