7.62 Discussion

Post by Dr Fumbles »

I'm looking for a multi-service 7.62 suppressor. I'm buying it primarily to live on a sbr (edit 8" or greater mostly hand-load sub, and commercial sub) 300 blk, but would like to run it on any other center fire guns. I have a 300 win mag and don't plan on getting anything more powerful. It doesn't have to rated for 300 WM but 308 at a minimum.

What do you think is the best?
What have you shot or seen?

I can't buy one unless I there is no current room for improvement. It isn't practical to sell these.

Listed alphabetically:
AAC 300-TM
AAC MK13-SD
AAC CYCLONE (not 300 WM rated)
Liberty Victory Magnum
SANDMAN TI 7.62
Silencerco omega
Yankee Hill Machine .30 Cal. Ultra Light Tactical
anything else?

Quick disconnect means extra weight and money that could have gone into more suppression or accuracy (IMO for my purposes).

It is hard to find any videos on the omega and sandman because they are new to the market.
Thanks

...FWIW, the vids I've seen on Templar Tactical (now CRUX) products in regards to accuracy have been impressive...

I chose the Saker 762 because the entire baffle stack is stellite. It's the most durable material used in cans right now. Truly a lifetime investment i think. And plenty of mounting options available, including direct thread.

The Specwar 762 is all stellite too, but it's way longer and heavier than the Saker. And it's only QA/QD.

The new Omega is interesting; lighter and shorter. But at the expense of some durability. Only the first baffle is stellite; the rest is stainless steel. Inconel is stronger than SS. So I look at the Omega more as a compromise of sorts.

Most modern 762 cans all handle 300WM. A few stop at just 308Win. But look for the ones that can handle 300RUM (Saker does). Not that it means you'll ever shoot one... but you want a silencer that's overbuilt, yet not too extreme in weight/length. Durability over a lifetime.

This seems like a good year for cans.
By the time one series gets tested a new wave is out. This is annoying for the researching perfectionist.

Titanium is better suited for my style of shooting. I don't do mag dumps or shoot hot ammo. If I shoot out a titanium suppressor; I've probably gotten my moneys worth.

Crux looks cool. They seem to give the best a run for the money on POI shift. I hadn't heard of them before. There isn't any technical sound data on them.

Why do the longer magnum cans not have better numbers than the shorter versions when using them on 308 or blackout?

The Crux guy was explaining something and they edited he's answer out.

Thanks

Since there is no consensus on the quietest suppressor and actual data is hard to do and find with new suppressors. I wanted to include quantitatively rating suppressors.

The more I read on suppressor the more I hear people say not "to chase the db reading". Since it isn't a perfect match with db to hearing loudness. Why not rank them on hearing, since I can't personally test all the combinations; I wanted to compile a ranking.
(Who remembers those problems, if Sally is 6 inches taller than Susie and Sarah is 4 inches short than Sharon who is 2 inches taller Sandy who is...)

I know it is subjective, but most common opinion should the most accepted answer.

That might roughly work if you gathered up all the cans you were interested in, had a group of XX people gathered nearby to listen to each as you shot them all using the same load, one by one. Your subject group would all have to do their ratings blind and you'd have to tally their responses after they completed and you might be able to determine an acceptable ranking.

Otherwise, way too many variables by simply soliciting people's opinions via the Internet.

Regarding the "chase the dB reading" comments. You can match up hearing to a machine sometimes, like first round pop or an abnormally quiet shot.

However, tone and your perception of how loud the round is come into play.

The other week we shot half a dozen or so cans side by side... one in particular I thought sounded absolutely awful. On paper though, it looks pretty good (and even better than some suppressors that sounded better to me.)

I went through this very recently for my purchase for a 12.5" 6.8 hunting rig. My list of priorities started with light weight. I went with the TBAC Ultra 7. Not the cheapest, but the lightest that I could find that was rated for a 6.8 in SBR lengths. It will only see supersonic loads, so I had a few dBs to spare. Subs are cool, but for the bigger hogs, sub 300BLK, even super 300BLK, leave too much on the table. If I wanted really quiet, I'll pull out the integral 44 bolt gun or the Liberty Leonidas with subs.

My experience here.

The Specwar 762 is built like a brickhouse. Having had it almost a year now, the only other I would consider at this point would be an Omega.
