The perfect Honeybadger suppressor?

Post by jwise »

I'm building a Honeybadger. I have the lower and upper (billet), an 8" Ranier Arms barrel, and a 12" rail with a generous inside diameter.

What I need now is a dedicated suppressor to fit under the handguard (1.5" diameter tube). I have an AAC SDN-6 (won't work) and a Saker 762 with the 51T MAAD mount attached to work with all my other 51T mount equipped rifles.

I COULD switch the Saker 762 back to the Trifecta MAAD, and use it exclusively on the Honeybadger. But, I already paid good money for the 51T MAAD, and I would prefer to get more use out of it than just on ONE rifle. The Saker is NOT a cheap suppressor, and I want to use it!

I was thinking there HAVE to be short-ish, light-ish, direct thread .30cal cans that won't break the bank and would be perfect for this build. I suppose it doesn't HAVE to be a direct-thread suppressor, but I want short and light, and that usually means direct thread.

Possible choices:

1. Silencerco Harvester: Yeah, it's great and all, and fits my needs, but it is long, and has that goofy brake on the end. I can't believe SiCo released their brand new flagship suppressor (Omega) with that corny brake. On the other hand, since the Omega has it, it might become cool!? The price is good, so that's a start.

The "goofy" brake on the Omega is removable, resulting in a 6" can. It will have a flat end-plate available about March/April.

Guns are tools designed for dirty work both competitive and defensive. If I meet someone with a well worn gun, I hope their barrel is pointed the same direction as mine if the lead starts flying...

Well that's good for Omega owners. I'll have to measure the inside diameter of my rail to see if the Omega will fit under there.

A 6" 14oz suppressor sounds nice.

I'm also looking at a SAS Reaper:

A local shop has one for $875. It is 7" and 10.4oz.

Don't just assume that any can will be good. A 6 inch barrel is brutal on a can. You may be ok at 1000 rounds, but at 3100 rounds your can breaks. Just saying.

Here's the Spike's receiver set that I am using for this build:

Here's the Seekins 12" rail I am using:

I will be shooting nearly 100% subsonic 300BLK from an 8.5" barrel.

Templar makes a 6"x1.5" 11oz 30cal can that is rated for SBR use. It is $1300.

I think the SAS Reaper might be just what I am looking for. Quite a bit cheaper than the Templar, and as I plan to shoot mostly 300BLK subs, it is probably just right.

For my 10.5" 7.62x39, 300BLK, and 18" & 20" .308s, I will use the Saker 762 or SDN-6.

I would say Omega, but you will probably need to get a different handguard. omega has a slightly larger than 1.5" diameter. omega is rated down to 8" barrel with 300 blackout, I believe that includes supersonic, so no worries there.

plus light, quiet, short, comes with direct thread, which is a good thing since its going to be a dedicated suppressor, you wont have the added 4 +/- oz. from the muzzle device. Did i mention it's reasonably priced? <900$ @ silencershop.

If that rail is what I think it is, ID should be about 1.8".

Agreed, looks like a Seekins BAR rail...my SDN-6 fits under it fine, plenty of clearance...little tricky with the QD latch, but i'm a miracle worker with a popsicle stick...lol

I'm thinking hard about the SAS Reaper. Other than being new, why would the Omega be a better dedicated Honey Badger suppressor over the Reaper?
