Were those A weighted measurements? I can't see the muzzle devices on those 3 rifles, but I assume they are all the same. Lastly, this should really be done more than once, in opposite barrel length order.....

The 10.5" barrel unsuppressed muzzle reading is 171db, while the 16" unsuppresed muzzle is 174. BUT.... The 10.5" unsuppressed at-ear is 157 and the unsuppressed at ear of the 16" is 153. So what are possible explanations that one could be louder than the other one at the muzzle but quieter than the other one at the ear? Or vice-versa?

I have a general understanding but I too have more questions than answers at this point as well. I have a feeling the fluid dynamics of this is very complex. It seems to me that the extra sound is moving around and there is a lot of various factors at play.

I would like to see this exact same kind of test done on other calibers as well (like 300 BLK).

My conventional wisdom didn't quite hold up to this test...so I am all ears to learn more. I definitely have my theories and more than a few ideas but this I think will have a much more complicated answer.

SIDENOTE----- Has anyone used TITE GROUP in the 300?????yes

Off topic a little bit but....

And the results? It would be kind of cool to have a spreadsheet or something of the various results using various powders as a reference point. I would be more than interested in seeing data on all the powders out there that people have tried... kind of 'wildcat powder test' results...

Mixed results.

Will not cycle an AR, is very quiet in a bolt action, builds pressure very quickly.

It’s one of those powders for subs that you might want to work velocity up instead of down because it’s easier to pound out a squib than half a case welded to the chamber because of a case separation do to over pressure. With heavy bullets you have as much chamber pressure as most supers and it only takes about .5 grains too much at the top end to go from flattened primer and a slight swipe, to blowing a primer and needing a hammer and chainsaw to extract the fired case from the bolt head.

Not a powder I would recommend to use for most people.
