Subsonic 300 Blackout Suppressors

Post by zcav8or »

First off let me start by apologizing if this is an idiot question however my suppressor knowledge is extremely limited. I recently built a 300 Blackout which I plan on shooting suppressed subsonics. My question is about cleaning the suppressor. From what I understand, when shooting supersonics, very little needs to be done since the hot gases do a self clean when shooting however the subsonics do get a lot of buildup on the interior of the can. I know a lot of people use the SilencerCo Omega and that was one of the top ones I was looking at but most rifle suppressors aren’t user serviceable. How do you all go about cleaning your cans (if at all) to avoid a lot of the fowling building up inside?

Thanks in Advance

are you shooting uncoated lead projectiles?

if you aren't, I wouldn't have too many concerns.

just load up some supers now and then (or put it on a 5.56 or .308 or something else with more power).

I have had a YHM Phantom 7.62 for about 5 years now, and it's never needed cleaned.

*IF* you're shooting bare lead, then that's a different story.

First, I don't let the turkeys and chickens near my suppressors. :P

IMO, folks worry too much about clean suppressors. Shoot it and enjoy it. Nothing bad will happen if it gets a little dirty inside.

I also have a YHM Phantom. I have shot it for years without worrying about cleaning it. Of course, it is a QD, and rotates to a 308 once in a while, and shoots a fair amount of super 300blackout.

if one were to want to ocd clean a non user serviceable suppressor, i would think that a couple cycles in an ultrasonic cleaner should get the job done pretty well, at least as far as removing any carbon fouling, etc. make sure you use an appropriate cleaning solution for the material your can is made from of course, yadda yadda <full disclaimers and all that>

as others noted - firing a mag or two of supers through it on a regular basis should maintain a functional level of cleanliness though. thats my standard method - screw it on the 223 or the 308 and letter-rip-tater-chip!

This photo probably surpasses regular fouling.

That was posted on silencertalk years ago.

Far as I know, the baffle was kissing the bullets and shaved some lead and jacketing and someone continued shooting it, where it continued filling up until it finally wouldn't even pass a bullet.

How it didn't explode and come out of the side of the tube, is anyones guess.
