The Wait Is On

Post by Gman2017 »

Got a Dead Air Sandman-S in jail waiting on my stamp arrival. Going on 2.5 months, hope its a fast turn around. My first one in 2015 took 5 months. It will be dedicated to a 300 blk sbr. What is a good factory sub round that would be recommended for this application?

I'll be honest, I haven't found a factory sub that I liked. But maybe one of the other guys have ????

Congrats on the can.

I love Discreet Ballistics 190gr subs. Fiocchi works well in some of my barrels and American Eagle Suppressor brand has been surprisingly good

Be aware that most factory subs are loaded with bullets that will not expand or do much at subsonic velocities. Punching paper, ringing steel...good to go. As a defensive round...not so good.

210gn Amax, 220gn SMK...these are the most common bullets loaded for subs in the 300blk. Neither is a good choice for HD/SD.

During Black Friday sale I ordered 1k rds of Sellier and Bellot 200 gr fmj to give a try. Do the Remington 220 gr hpbt expand much?

The Remington's are not designed to expand, think of them more like the hollow point of a match bullet.

The Rem 220gn sub is loaded with the 220 Sierra match king bullet. Its a target bullet, not a hunting bullet.

No expansion at full speed, much less subsonic velocities.

The same goes for the 208gn Hornady A-max. Zero expansion.

To get reliable expansion in a sub, look at Lehighs stuff

I looked on their site...minimum twist rate is 1:8 and kinda pricey for the 194 gr maximum expansion.

Yes, they are certainly proud of them.

But considering how well they work, they have a right to be. You won't find a better performing bullet for blackout subs.
