Supressor wrap liner

Post by Flatliner »

So, a recent thread inspired me to make my own suppressor wrap. I enjoy sewing my own outdoors projects but this will be a new one for me. I contacted Silencerco as I want to do it for my omega and they recommended a design for a 3000 rating. I located a welders blanket that is rated at 1800 degrees. Any recommendations? OR would using a double layer of an 1800 degree material get me to a 3000 degree rating?

Are you seriously going to be running your can 1800 degree's or more?

Most steels have a melting point well below 3000 *F depending on grade.

Look at some "hot exhaust" videos and you'll see what 1300F looks like in thin steel. Your can will probably sag and be worth nothing after it spends any time at 1800F.

OK, very valid points. I guess I didn't really think that one through totally. I will pick up a bit of the 1800 and give it a try.

this is what i used for mine.

i used a thin piece of leather for the outer layer, with camo cloth affixed to it with super 77 (as well as stitching things togther)

seems to be holding up so far :)

I went to my local Menards and got a smaller piece of what looks to be the same thing. It will be a week or two before I can get the high temp thread and give this a try. I will post pics when I am done with the prototype. Any advice from those who have been down this road is appreciated.

Found an interesting option for the cover if anyone is interested. I can think of a dozen reasons this is a bad idea but since I ran across it, I thought I would share. I previously purchased some mag pouches from this Chinese manufacturer to get my boys through a carbine class. Was reasonable quality for low cost. TO BE CLEAR, I realize this does NOT include the actual heat shield material, just an option for a non-sewer who happens to get lucky enough to need this exact size. ;-)

Here’s what I did:

Google “fire sleeve” in your local area. I bought 3 FEET for ~$12, in the correct diameter for my can. It is rated up to 500 degrees F continuous and even higher for short periods. There are other types that take more heat. Cut it to the proper length with household scissors.

Then go to https://www.riflesonly.com/suppressor-covers and buy just the sleeve - $25- $35 in the proper length, and BOOM, you now have a quality suppressor cover for under 50 bucks.

I work for a phone company. Will see if We still have any in supply. We had a wrap that was about 24" by 12" or something like that. When putting a heat shrink closure over a damaged cable or over a spliced cable in a trench or hole you would wrap around gas lines or other cables to keep them from being burned by Torch when putting on Heat Shrink closure. It is tan in color and kind of like a thick burlap. It might cut down on heat as I know it was Fire Retardant.
