I was chatting with a friend on FB today about my plans for a .30 suppressor for my 300BLK that could do double duty on my .308 Rem 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD... He said he'd heard of a .458 suppressor, which though heavy, could function on any host platform from 22LR up to 45ACP/.458 SOCOM, as long as it was big enough for the rifle jobs. Basically one can for any gun in inventory assuming you could thread it on.
Is there a .458 suppressor built?
Would it be effective all the way down to .30, or even .223? (I know .30 cans work fine on .223)
Has anybody tested a can on a 45ACP, AND a 300BLK or even .223?

.458 Suppressor?
Guns are tools designed for dirty work both competitive and defensive. If I meet someone with a well worn gun, I hope their barrel is pointed the same direction as mine if the lead starts flying...

Re: .458 Suppressor?
The larger cans are a lot more expensive, and you will likely have a hard time finding all the QD mounts for a 458 sized can. There probably isn't a 1/2"x28 or a 1/2"x36 (9mm) for that size can.
I suggest starting with an Octane 45 for 45 ACP, 40 S&W, 9mm and 300 Blackout suppressed only.
Then add a 30 caliber can which can do your 308 Win, 300 BLK Supersonics and 5.56mm supersonics.
I like a dedicated can for 22LR, they are much smaller in length, diameter and weight. Makes a big difference. With the smaller diameter, on most 22 pistols, I can still see my sights. Any of the other cans that is unlikely to be the case.

The Bowers VESR 458 at Silencershop looks cool. Anyone use it on a 450 Bushmaster? I might have to start another build...
Re: .458 Suppressor?
I just completed my paperwork for the Bowers VERS458. I found it surprisingly light for it's size but got two inserts, one for the Tromix 5/8 x 24 and one for the RRA 5/8 x 32. Bowers are good people to deal with. Wish I could give you more about it's functionality but I haven't shot it yet.
Re: .458 Suppressor?
I've been using an X-Caliber .45 can to suppress subsonic 405 grain bullets and it does great.
I built a Savage rifle to shoot the .460 Smith and Wesson. With 6 grains of Red Dot its as quiet as anything out there and it hits like a ton of bricks.

I haven't handled one yet but I hear Wilson's .458 suppressor works well. Also comes with a quick thread custom brake and your choice of finish for $1200 before stamp.
