I have heard that it's not wise to make one without a lawyer, but from what I have read, it's also easy (and convenient) AND free to do it this way. I would have a very simple one with just two names... that's all

Yes, your lower does have to be engraved with the name of the trust and the city and state of the trust.

As for doing the trust yourself, lots of people have done it without problem. I've had a couple Class 3 dealers tell me that the ATF has been increasing scrutiny of the trusts to make sure they are completely legal. I also wanted to have my wife and dad on the trust as they were also likely to be in possession of or using the NFA items. For those reasons, I went work a NFA trust service. It was $299 and they have been very helpful to me with all of my follow up questions.

that being said, how/where do people get their lowers engraved? do I send it somewhere to get it engraved? buy it engraved?

What happens when you want to move?

Doesn't matter, you don't get the thing engraved with the new address. It is only for Form 1 items that you are "manufacturing" as the trust. You don't get a form 4 suppressor or SBR engraved with the trust info.

For me, the money I paid a lawyer to write my trust is an investment. If in the future the ATF questions anything I can give them his phone number and let him deal with it.
