Re: Ruger RARR .450 Bushmaster
I think I'd rather have a .45-70 bolt action, but they didn't ask me.

Re: Ruger RARR .450 Bushmaster
My bad, I was referring to the 450BM. It typically operates at 39,000PSI at max loads so yes, it's quite a bit tamer than the .460 pressure-wise. The bolt trust is a bit more important than pressure when it comes to action strength. The RARR action is not stressed all that much will the .284 Win case head diameter.TMD wrote:A muzzle brake may tame recoil but it does nothing for the action. The .460mag operates at pressures up to 65k which is on par with magnum rifle rounds. To put it in perspective when I had my .460 PC with a 10.5" barrel I used to load 300gn XTP's with 44.0gn of Lil'Gun. Muzzle velocity was almost 2100fps which equates to about 2900lbs of energy, more than a .30-06. There's a reason you don't see short action bolt guns chambered in this cartridge.iplaywithnoshoes wrote:I believe they come with a muzzle brake from the factory. The recoil should be much better than an unbraked .45-70.TMD wrote:
Wishful thinking but I doubt the action or the plastic stock on the Ruger could withstand the pressure of the .460 mag.
