so far i had to grind down the barrel pin with the dremel (substantially) and order new gas tube roll pins. at least i'm learning what NOT to do...

Newbie question here - this can be bought without a tax stamp, but I would need a stamp before I start assembling the whole gun, correct?

Lets give this a shot and folks feel free to correct me if I incorrectly state something here.
You can assemble the upper with no issue. It is the lower that would get you into trouble. The lower can not be purchased with a stock on it nor can you have ever had a stock on that lower.

My understanding is that you want the lower to be registered/receipted as "other". Then it can be anything you want it to be.
No way to know if you've ever had a stock mounted.

Is the barrel extension drilled for the index pin? Has the extension already been torqued onto the barrel? Does the kit some with the barrel index pin? Just trying to determine what I will need to do when I get the kit? Ideally I just need to tap or press the pin into the extension.

From what I have read today, all we need to do is tap the barrel pin in. You can also press in or tap in the gas block to pin it to the barrel since it is already notched for it.

All you have to do is tap the index pin in, the hole is already there. The extension is torqued already.
