the LED wont burn out - at least if its not defective.
the circuit board that its attached to in the lamp assembly is the failure point.
i have some track lighting in my house. the kind that usually use the 50w halogen gu10 base. I did a work trade with a local LED "specialist" and earned myself $120 of his fancy led g10's. 3 watts, diffused lense. 3000K. burned the first one out in a little over a year. blew the board. i watched it ark when i turned it on one day. am currently testing ge's 3.5w g10 replacement. Thankfully those are only ~$15 each. and they have a 5 year warranty.
at least with the LED's over my desk i can use that track lighting. with a bank of 50w halogen's roasting over me, it was uncomfortable to work there with those on.

It looks like a great way to add lights anywhere and for great price too. This is great, thanks for sharing!

Re: more LED stuff - work bench lighting
I've got a 150W halogen work light on my manual mill I want to swap out to something that doesn't melt my face when I'm working next to it. LED's are getting to the point they pose a threat to the halogen's luminosity/form factor - it could already have come to pass.
I ordered the LED strips last week and they were delivered Sunday of all days, by the USPS. I chose the Fulfillment by Amazon offering for a buck more than the over-seas options, but I'm not a prime member or anything. Today I got a plug for the pigtail that these come with so I can try experimenting without cutting the harnesses. I'm thinking 2 along the outside edges of the cargo container will be perfect for making that a useful space in the dark. I plan to run them off a car battery with a solar charger off the grid.

That looks great!
I have indirect florescent lighting in my living-room, 8 fixtures. Some of them don't work anymore so maybe I should replace them with these? It looks like they might be bright enough.

indirect lighting is one of the most common uses for these things. that and under cabinet lighting.
i'd say you'll have to try to test out if they work well enough for you, but you can get a roll of lighting and a power source for about what a new fluorescent ballast will cost you so its probably worth the cost of entry just to experiment!

If it doesn't work I can use it for something else.
Thanks for the tip.

I love those LEDs! I've replaced the trunk lights in both our cars with the same ones. Cheap and BRIGHT!
