Which Gives Greater Accuracy

Post by rlandry6 »

Almost all of the You Tube reviews on rifles and scopes are done using a bipod on the firearm, occasionally a rest or bags. So, which one affords the greatest accuracy. Obviously you aren't going to drag the Lead Sled or
Caldwell rest on a prairie dog or a hog hunt, but when shooting for accuracy, which one prevails?

No science here and not speaking for anyone else but I tend to be more accurate prone off a bipod than off of bags. Being able to load the bipod, where as I can't load a bag, is what helps me. At least I think.

Edit to add the use of a rear bag as well.

I think it depends on the gun and harmonics. I have had guns that went to hell when I attached a bipod.

I tell new shooters to try without a bipod first then try with a bipod. If the bipod causes a problem it will be a big problem.

I seem to be more accurate on a bag. I assume its because I'm allowing the rifle to slide more easily straight back.

I Used to love bipods, but I learned I can shoot more accurate off of a bag and have also heard for a long time now that shooting off of a bag is more accurate than a bipod because it supports the gun better. ( more support than just 2 points that bipods have = more stability = easier to shoot better)

Don't get me wrong I still love bipods and they have their place but if given the choice id rather shoot off a bag, but then again bipods are much more convenient in the field.......
