Law in NC about retreating in confrontation??

I know there are a few other people on this site that live in NC.

I caught the tail end of a news brief while on the road today. Something about a law before the NC legislature about a duty to retreat as a first step instead of blasting away with a firearm. The news commentator mentioned this also applied to in the home.

Anyone know what this is about? Does your home state have such a law?

Some of the extreme liberals from Chapel Hill-Durham have filed this bill. It will most likely go to committee and die. It would be a good idea to call your legislators and complain just to let them know we're watching.

NC law was exactly that up until a few years ago.
There was a "Castle Doctrine" law that passed in 2011 and that got rid of that silly concept.

Since we lost our Governor, they feel that they can reverse some of the items he signed.
With the majority of the NC House & Senate still Republican, that legislation will go nowhere.

We have a duty to retreat law, but it's not valid inside our homes (attached garage is not considered part of the house, so I you catch someone breaking in out there you can't just shoot them unless you "thought they had a gun" ).

We've got a more "castle doctrine" type law in play this session to make it we can stand our ground in any area we're legally allowed to be (so car would be a defensible location instead of having to have no option to escape prior to permissible self defense lethal force, unless they have a weapon and then it's a good shoot). Whether or not Gov. Prozac will sign it if it makes it to his desk is unclear, but he's not pro-2A or self defense - that's what our police are for (see Philando Castille case on how well that works).

Interesting to see the that the 7 democrats sponsoring this bill are led by the same gentleman who was the primary sponsor of the bill to reform NC house bill 2.

There is a bit more in the bill than just repealing our stand our ground laws. They are also pushing for magazine capacity limits, any person who owns a firearm to have to carry firearm liability insurance, and changing the law for safe storage just to name a few.

This one will more than likely die out but it is still worth reaching out to our legislators to let them know that we see this Tom foolery, and will have none of it!
