making your own .22 hollow points

Post by noname »

I have several thousand .22LRs. I can make a holder to hold a .22 LR and use my drill press to drill a small hole in the tip. I can use a stop block to keep the hole uniform and maybe my reloading powder scale to check before and after weight. No real purpose other that to see if it can done and experiment with the results.

Anyone ever tried this?

Interesting exercise. My "concern" would be the bullet spinning in the case.

There are jigs sold that I believe use a hammer to achieve a similar result. Or at least I think that's how they're used. It's been years since I've looked at them and the memory is rusty.

Please let us know how it works.

edit: I did a little research to see if I could find the tool. It was made and sold by Paco Kelly but near is I could find it's not made anymore.

While I don't HP my own bullets I do take a solid and put a flat meplat on the bullet. I bought a jig to do that years ago and while "my" manufacturer no longer exists I've seen similar tools not long ago. CCI did or still does makes a round with a similar "small game bullet".

I have this die and have made hollow and eley-pointed 22lr. I like it.

I have not tried it yet, but I picked up a die by Neal Waltz.

He can be contacted here:
4105 Hyatt Avenue N.W., Massillon OH 44646-1435 Telephone: 330-837-4818.

Had better luck calling BTW.

Here is info on this die:

Forster has a tool as well, but all it does is drill a hole, but it seems to do what you want.
