As Maine goes so goes the nation...

Post by phatdad »

So Maine now allows hunting with a suppressor. Yeah! BUT...you have to fill out an application and pay yet another $12 and it is still illegal to hunt with an SBR which kinda takes the fun out of having one. Nothing less fun than walking around with a 2 lb, 8 inch appendage hanging off the end of my 16" rifle.

A little odd, especially since I heard recent legislation was passed there to allow concealed carry without a permit. Perhaps in the near future, they can change that too. It would not hurt to contact your local representative about the matter.

Do you have to pay the $12.00 every year or is it a one time fee?

1.This law states that the Commissioner of IFW may issue a permit that is valid until August 1, 2018 for the use of noise suppression devices while hunting as long as the person has lawful possession of the device and has not had a hunting license revoked as a result of a serious hunting violation.

I have a 15 oz 8" appendage hanging off my 9.5" barrel and it makes for a very compact lightweight carbine.

Shoots MOA with 110 gr black tips and sounds like a .22 rimfire. The only down side is the initial cost of everything.

Looking forward to using it legally for deer hunting here in Maine for the first time this year.

Looks to me like if you got your can on a trust you need to register it with the state if you want to hunt with it.

So which is it? Can you hunt legally with an SBR or not in Maine?

Maine state law says nothing about it being illegal to hunt with an SBR so as long as you have the proper stamps you should be good to go.
