Tikka T3 300 BLK hunting rifle

Post by tikkablk »

Hi all, I live in little Island in the south pacific called New Zealand. I have always been wanting a subsonic hunting rifle. Two years ago I talked my buddy into getting a Rem700 300 blackout for shooting pests on his trophy Red deer farm and did all his Blackout reloading for him. After doing a lot of research I was after a short 12" barrelled stainless steel bolt action, so I picked up cheap second hand Tikka .223rem and had it re barrelled into a 1:7 twist 300 BLK as a hunting rig only.
After a 3 month wait I got it back and started some load development with 230gr Berger OTM and Lehigh 194 Grain Maxiumum Expansion projectiles.

Tikka T3

Hardy Engineering 12" 1:7 barrel stainless steel

Oceania Defence. 3D printed AR-10/300BLK Ti-suppressor. weights 7.87oz

First red deer taken with the 300 BLK, 230gr OTM right between the eyes exited the base of the skull and landed under the skin on its back.

The top is the OTM bullet recovered from the deer the other is a 194gr Lehigh ME shot on a billy goat chest on and travelling 12" destroying top of the heart and rest in the gut.

Good on ya!!!

Wow that is one hell of a first post. Congrats on the great hunting and wonderful animals taken so far.

Also that rifle is too cool!

Please keep reporting on your hunting and keep posting pics, that stuff is awesome.

Do you have any plans to take any other kinds of wild life there?

What a fantastic rifle! Thank you for sharing and welcome to the site.

Very cool rifle! I've thought about converting a Tikka like that too, glad to know it works well.

Do you shoot through the red muzzle tape, or peel it off first?

Shoot through it with no POI change. Had one a mate fall over and plugged his barrel for of mud, fired a shot and destroyed 6" of barrel.
Also know of guys doing the same to there suppressors with twigs inside and having baffle strike.
The Tikka feeds and ejects flawlessly compared to a mates Rem 700 300BLK.
