Where to zero?

Post by lewischuck2000 »

This has probably been discussed before but I can't get past the first page of search results.
My son will be hunting with some PNW 125 great Nosler BT rounds. Using the strelok ballistics app it looks like a 50 yard sight in will keep the POI within 1 inch out to 150 yards.
Does this sound correct? What are y'all using?
Thanks, Chuck

I'm using a 50 yrd zero, but with 110gr Barnes Black Tips. Puts me about 3/4 inch high at 100 yards.

Go to ---> JBM Calculations(Trajectory). Plug in the right info ...........out comes the right info. Gives you all kinds of possibilities for the sight in. --- pruhdlr

200 yard zero is best.

Can you explain why this works better for you? Most of what I see is people saying 50. This is a newer cartridge for me and strategy is always appreciated.

I wondered about that also, the 200 would probably keep you closer to POA out to farther distances. We'll be shooting hogs in the woods with a red dot so I'm staying with the 50 yard zero.

I shoot the lighter bullets super and sight in all of them in for 50yds. Then I run the info thru JBM Calculations for the drops. ---pruhdlr

put in all the information about you bullet and its speed you can change your zero distance and see what is does to your down range bullet drop.

I've settled ona a 100 yard zero for my 16" AAC upper, shooting only supersonic, only hog hunting. A 100 yard opportunity will be the maximum the East Texas woods will offer me. Now I've verified my results against calculations with an iPad app "Shooter", dead on using my horseshoe reticled ACOG. Double checked at 25, 50 and 75 yards. There is such variance at those distances that there is really no need to adjust a hold, still MOP (Minute Of Pig) between 50 and 100 yards. Below 50 a simple 1" high hold to adjust for sight over bore is needed.
