Yeah, the Barnes names are really confusing. The load you’re talking about has an extra “T”. You can find Barnes data here, it doesn’t copy well.

Federal has a ballistic calculator that you can plug in their factory loads. The 120 power shock drops to 1800 fps at 100 yards and 1530 at 200.

This is why I have little faith in the people that answer the phones at times. Whoever you talked to may not of had the correct expansion velocity and it’s good to 1500, or he may just not have had a clue. Either way this is why I do my own testing.

It will be interesting to see what it really does.

Well that’s rather disappointing. I still might pick up a box and try it out.

If you do, and are interested, I just need 3 bullets to give you a real good idea of expansion possibilities.

This was the only hunting post I could recall where the Federal Power-Shok 120 copper was used:

I think it may also be in a post with photos of the deer.

I'm guessing that the rep on the phone got the minimum velocity wrong, but it was also an excellent shot

That shot was spot on for sure. Guy's remember, no matter if it's 30/06, a 308 or a 300 BLK, minimum expansion at X velocity doesn't mean you have a Y yardage bullet. At the end of it's run, it's shedding velocity fast. Back off max range by 50 to 75 yards and don't fall for the BS on these extreme LR hunting shows. It's not about how far, it's about how close that proves what type of hunter you are.
You can't beat the mountain, pilgrim. Mountains got its own way.

I get all that for sure but I disagree on some of your points. The .308 and .30-06 with pretty much any “big game hunting” will reliably expand out to 400+ yards which encompasses a vast majority of hunting so the “average” hunter probably doesn’t spend as much time thinking about bullet performance. But the discussion here is not about what type of hunter you are, it’s about bullet performance. I want to use the best bullet possible weather that’s the 110/120 tac x or not. Back to the discussion I sent a follow up email to federal asking about the 1800 expansion velocity and how basically it made the load a 100 yard deer load and they responded with “the 300 blackout is not a long range load” so take that for what it’s worth.
