New Shotgun-Door Breaching Prop

Post by Scratch »

We built a new Shotgun-Door Breaching Prop to put down at the range and broke it in this past weekend.

It uses paracord and an old tire for weight to pull the door open.

Right now, I slide a 1X2 piece of wood in PVC pipes and shoot it apart, but I'm looking for ideas on how to use an AR500 plate to shoot instead of sticks to reset each time...

Here's a video about it with some action shots:

Shooting a steel plate from a couple of feet away with a load of shot does not sound very smart to me .

I shoot from 7 yards away, not like a real door breach...

Up at Camp Ripley in MN on their MOUT sites...they use real door knobs on 2" insulation foam boards

A 6x8 section is cut, cored, hollowed and installed with a door knob. That is inserted into a slotted frame on the door and viola!

Door latches and closes, yet you can repeatedly kick or shoot the latch with no damage to the door.

Neat. You should staple cardboard over the stick though so that the shooter has to pay attention to aim.

Also I second the no metal, keep it wood thing. I would put metal tube instead of pipe. Then the breach drill can also be with a sledge or ram, and you have more stage options.

Great idea! I think I'm going to swap the PVC out for metal tube.

But you were wise to keep the metal way off the sides of the shoot area. I would be mindful about where the RO stands in relation to the breacher, given pellet bounce angles.

A shoot box on the ground to force 45* shoot angle is wise too.
