147GR H110 reduced recoil loads.

Post by cnetter »

First post!

I've been reloading 300blk, 147gr, with 13.5gr of H110. gun cycles and bolt locks back. Shooting from my Windham Weaponry pistol converted to SBR. 9in barrel.

My application is for competitive AR speed shooting. Max range required is 20yrds. targets are 8 in circles.

My question how much less powder could i safely go? not trying to go subsonic. just the least amount of recoil for speed.

Let me know if any more info is required.

Any help would be appreciated.

At this point you probably won't be able to reduce the load you have much and keep it cycling reliably. all you can do is try.

You next options would to build a pistol specifically for the purpose. Lighter spring and buffer allowing you to run a lighter bullet, slower.

You could probably drop as much as 25% of the recoil energy and impulse going to a 125 grain bullet.
300 Blackout, not just for sub-sonics.

H110 is a "Magnum" powder. It truly shines in a full case with a heavy crimp and squibs in reduced loads. Be careful.

For what you are trying to do I would get away from H110, and give Lilgun a try.

I have a subsonic 147gr loading that is 100% reliable in my 8" pistol with suppressor. It has almost no recoil, kind of like shooting a .22.

I use 8.3gr of Lilgun, cci400, fully seated into the cannelure (~2.100" coal), and a moderate crimp.

Without a can I would probably give 9.0gr a try.
