150gr Subsonics for AR15

Post by Suputin221 »

With the ludicrous price of heavy .30 cal bullets I decided to work up a subsonic load that will cycle my AR's reliably and still be quiet, while letting me use the less expensive 150r bullets. These two seem to work pretty well in all my 300 BLK configurations. 7" PDW, 10" carbine and 12" rifle. All three of these run pistol length gas systems.

The bullet is a 150r Hornady FMJ-BT for both.

H4198 10.5gr 125.6 dB

IMR4227 10.0gr 126.2 dB

I run a custom captive recoil spring system so I am not sure how these will work with a conventional recoil spring and buffer.

...sounds like an interesting development, kudos. Please provide some additional info reference the COAL, chrony'ed FPS, Silencer brand/model, etc. I've always been curious about sub-sonic with the lighter bullets and the performance they might provide.

COAL 2.180"

I haven't chrono'd these but they are def subsonic. No sonic crack.

The can is my own creation.

Gas port size? And have you ever done comparisons on your buffer system to the JP SCS? Curious if they are very close in performance, might be able to replicate performance with the springs kit available...your 7" PDW results interest me the most, putting the last pieces together on my 6.5" this month...would love to be able to run 150gr subs on the cheap...

I am interested in your chronograph data as well, for comparison sake, as I am currently working on lighter weight (150-180gr) subs.

I'm gonna try some in the Leonidas as well, I got that powder laying around. 1680 works too, yeah?

How's aboot some load data? 11.5gr?

How about with 147s? I found some cheapo ones, can get 150s for a bit more if I need to.

I am also interested in this loading as I have some 147gr m80 and some 150gr. Any one have a ruff idea where to start with lil gun or h110 or trailboss for these bullets. I will be shooting them from a remington 700 and through a yhm phantom m2. Thanks
