Re-sizing .310 pulls?
I'm wondering about re-sizing .310 pulls to .308. Anyone done this? Is it needed? Any ideas welcome. PK
Re: Re-sizing .310 pulls?
It is not really needed to run through the bore, but it does mess up the ability to chamber sometimes.

Re: Re-sizing .310 pulls?
I did with .311 bullets so .310 should be no problem. It has been said that if you seat the bullets deep than you can chamber them w/out resizing. I never tried this as all of my bullets were sized by the time I heard this info.kelly mt wrote:I'm wondering about re-sizing .310 pulls to .308. Anyone done this? Is it needed? Any ideas welcome. PK

Re: Re-sizing .310 pulls?
what is probably the biggest advantage that i can see to re-sizing is increasing the likelihood of compatibility/reliability of your ammo between multiple firearms.
the die is relatively inexpensive, so its just a little time for one pass through and then cleanup, and it has other uses (truing up .308 pulls, resizing 123 gr zmax/vmax, etc)
and it comes with a free bottle of alox you may never find a use for.

A Lee resizing die is in the mail heading my way to use on some 123 vmax from Grafs.

...what RSilvers said, the .310 bullets ogive will catch the walls of the throat/leade before a .308 bullet will. It will require seating deeper and possibly some reduction in powder charge. Reduction of powder charge is to prevent excessive pressures, yet, same (or better) FPS and accuracy can still be had even though bullet was seated deeper.

If memory serves, Ruger is using a .308" bore on the Mini-30's and has been for years.

I did it with .310 123gr pulls. $20 well spent.

My sizing die and 123's should be here tomorrow from Grafs

Re: Re-sizing .310 pulls?
Yes. I was mainly doing it last year when there were no .308 bullets in the 110-125gr range. I have been buying the Hornady 123gr 7.62 (.310"dia) V-Max bullets for ~22ish cents each and resizing them down to .308"dia. using my CH4D bullet sizer. I found that these were abundant and cheap, so I bought the sizer die and have so far resized ~2,500 of them. I have shot ~300-400 of them and they shoot fine. I use them for punching paper, and they are made to expand at blackout velocities, so they should be good for hunting.
