brass is D shaped

Post by monzahunter »

Just got back from the range today, shot the first 50 rounds of my own, 125 gr nosler bt, 17.6gr all the way up to 18.2 gr, 2.15 coal. All grouped nice(around 1 moa) and functioned perfect, cycled, bolt held open, nice group of spent cases. My only issue is the mouth of the case looks like a D with a dent on one side and below the dent is 2 marks that look like a snake bite, Im thinking the marks are from the feed ramps being sharp. I don't know if it matters but its a Spikes lower carbine buffer, hardened arms upper 16in SS barrel 1 in 8 twist with m4 feed ramps. I was going to show a picture but I cant figure out how, or maybe I need more posts, either way no pic

Thats normal, put a piece of the pile side of velcro on the brass deflector to minimize the dent.

These marks are from the brass hitting the brass deflector and are normal. If you reload, resizing will make them normal.

In that case range day with the new rifle was a success, I did notice all the strike marks on the deflector, never saw those marks on my 50 Beowulf or 5.56, thanks guys

Yeah...put all 3 cartridges side by side...note where the case mouth on the 300blk is in relation to the 5.56(223) case. Because it is shorter, it strikes the deflector differently.

That's just the brass saying "D-amn, 300 AAC Blackout rocks!"

The snake bites are from the bolt lugs

My first 30 or so rounds out of the 300 the snake bite marks were very noticeable, I took some burs out of the feed ramp and today they were there but they seemed to be a lot less noticeable, will do a little more polishing /deburring
