I looked at some under 100X magnification. It looked like 296, same color, same shape, but had more broken or misshapen "balls" than the 296 I have around the house.

I would think that a powder with non-uniform size would be harder to control the density of each individual charge.

I went out and chrono the factory blacktip ammo and same bullet reloads with H110. I think I found my load at 19.2 grains of H110 seating the same depth as the factory load.

What primer were you using for this?ar15fanboy wrote:I went out and chrono the factory blacktip ammo and same bullet reloads with H110. I think I found my load at 19.2 grains of H110 seating the same depth as the factory load.

I'm betting its Military bulk WC820, AKA H110

I just did a load workup starting at 18.8 and ending at 20.2
I had the exact same experience! Found other information on the web on accuracy and granted it was at closer ranges (50 yards) but they were hold great groups at 20.2 H110. I found anything over 19grains and my 100 yard groups opened way up. Is anyone getting good groups at 100 yards at near the 20 grains mark? And was the speed significantly better?

It's been a few years, but my 8" SBR shot best with CCI 450 and 20.2 grains seated to the factory length. Don't recall the velocity off the top of my head but it was faster than the factory ammo. But your rifle is different than mine, and your can of H110 most likely is different than my can. Just gotta go with what works.jrf wrote:Is anyone getting good groups at 100 yards at near the 20 grains mark? And was the speed significantly better?
Re: Powder used in Barnes 110 tac tx loads
At 100 yards I'm getting 3/4" groups with 18.8 at 19.2 I'm up to about 2.5" groups. At 20 grains I had a 1.5" group. Nothing horrible but a few nodes in the middle were like 4" groups.bangbangping wrote:It's been a few years, but my 8" SBR shot best with CCI 450 and 20.2 grains seated to the factory length. I started at 19 grains of H110 and moved up very accurate.
