H110 and subs

Post by binder »

Ive read conflicting results with H110 and can't find a1680 locally. Anyone have a good load for H110 and 208's, 220's or 240's?

never got h110 to work reliably with subs. i gave up and went 1680, which works great with everything.

I load my 300 whisper 9.6g H110 with 220 SMK's. Pistol length gas and 16" barrel. No issues cycling.

maybe ok with pistol length but carbine is definitely unreliable.

Would "pistol lenth" would include 9" ?

Good load here for sub's would be? _____________________________________________?
and also good sub load for the 16" would be______________________________________?

Use Reloader-7 instead of A1680 with the 220 and you will be just fine. It may even be better.

So I figured out the problem with H110 and 220 gr subs. 35 degrees outside shot through a pistol gas 8.5" barrel. 9.1 gr was perfect subsonic but no BHO, 9.2 gr was supersonic with BHO. Shot 10 of each to verify there was no variance in this and every 9.1 gr and 9.2 gr was the same with the Sierra 220's. Now I just need to find some a1680.

Being relatively new to reloading, how does the temperature affect this powder? I had no idea .1 gr would have such an effect. Shame too as the subsonic shots were very quiet and shot well.......guess that'll be a good handi rifle load.

Temp makes a difference in FPS for on the other as it gets colder the speed of sound changes. Quick rule of thumb. One deg = 1 fps .. fo a 50 deg F drop in temp will drop the Speed of Sound by 50 FPS. This means many sub summer loads will be supersonic or Transonic.

So you have that to keep in mind. Warm ammo in yiur pocket will not slow enough down to correct for the drop in air temp to keep it subsonic. Some people say the ammo will ALSO slow down enough to = the change in the speed of sound. I disagree. Sure cold ammo is slower but In the BLK it will not be 1 fps for every deg less like the speed of sound. For me anyway.
