Load Catalog: Subsonic, A1680, 150gr to 200gr

Post by bamachem »

The "Standard" Powders are currently Lil'Gun, H110, and A1680. This thread is for any Subsonic loads using powders OTHER than these.

This thread is a compilation of "Pet Loads" that others have contributed for publication. No chat and no discussion of loads. You can provide a link in your post for the "workup" of the load if you choose to post one.

Any loads listed are what have worked for others, but does not mean that they will work for you or your specific firearm. Pet Loads are NOT a shortcut nor a quick and cheap way to escape the sometimes tedious task of load development. Load development means starting with a LOWER powder charge and working up to that "Pet Load" in a safe and methodical manner, always checking for signs of overpressure along the way. NEVER take a "Pet Load" and use it as a starting point.

In order to be considered for publication, you can submit your information in the following format:

Rifle Used
Barrel Maker, Contour, Gas Length/Port Size (if known)
Barrel Length and Twist
Magazine Brand/Size
Bullet Used (grain, manufacturer, type)
Powder Charge and Brand
Case Used
Primer Used
COAL
Chronograph Velocity, if known or manual velocity, if known.
Any issues or problems, Failure to Fire, Failure to Feed, Failure to Eject, etc. Keep it short.
Link to your "workup" thread

This is an example of a load that I worked up in my AR:
AR15
AR Stoner, Med Contour, Carbine
16", 1:8 5R
MagPul PMAG, 30RD & Custom 10RD (cut down 30RD mag)
110 gr Hornady V-Max
19.6gr Hodgdon Lil'Gun
LC 5.56, reformed to 300BLK
CCI 450 Small Mag
2.10"
2350 FPS (estimated, manual)
Zero Issues so far. All feed, fire, and eject fine.
N/A

Please ensure that your load info is in this format when submitted. Any loads that are incomplete are subject to deletion at any time.

Again, no chat or discussion allowed. Chat and discussion should be done in your individual "workup" thread that you link to.

Thanks!

Disclaimer: I was loading the 200gr Lehigh ME then they switched to the 194gr design and I kept the same load, it shot even more accurately and I figured the 6gr weight decrease was negligible enough to not worry about the speed increase. The following is my load for both but was chrony'ed on the 200gr bullet.

AR15
AAC upper, Med Contour, Carbine Gas, RRA Lower (AR0901CX) no mods
16", 1:7 twist
Lancer L5 20rnd mag
194/200 gr Lehigh Defense Maximum Expansion (ME)
10.0 gr of A1680
Mixed brass, reformed to 300BLK, annealed and 1/2 turn crimp
Remington 7 1/2 Small Rifle Primers
COAL: 2.120"
Mx: 1056 fps
Mn: 963 fps (next lowest was 988 fps, a bit of an ES going on here)
Avg: 1015 fps

Cycled with no issue UNSUPRESSED and Bolt Hold Open upon last shot
Temp 65 degrees and 533 ft above sea level

194gr Lehigh defense Subsonic handloads.

AR-15
Noveske 8.2" with 1:8 twist with an AAC SDN-6 Suppressor (attached during all testing).
Lancer 30rd
Lehigh Defense 194gr Maximum Expansion bullet
A1680 11.1gr
AAC Brass with primers already inserted
COAL was 2.220

I tested 3 different loads:

11.1gr A1680
Min 932 fps
Max 951 fps
SD 7
avg 941 fps

10.8gr A1680
Min 920 fps
Max 928 fps
SD 3
avg 925 fps

10.6gr A1680
Lower than the other two

On the 10.6 load on the last bullet there was a failure to feed. I took the round out and put it back in the mag. I charged the weapon and it went in and fired normally.

All Loads cycled and held the bolt open on the last round.

I shot at 15 yards and they were hole in hole.

Temp 66 degrees and 487 ft above sea level
