Load Catalog: Supersonic, All other Powders and Bullets

Post by bamachem »

The "Standard" Powders are currently Lil'Gun, H110, and A1680. This thread is for any Supersonic loads using powders OTHER than these.

This thread is a compilation of "Pet Loads" that others have contributed for publication. No chat and no discussion of loads. You can provide a link in your post for the "workup" of the load if you choose to post one.

Any loads listed are what have worked for others, but does not mean that they will work for you or your specific firearm. Pet Loads are NOT a shortcut nor a quick and cheap way to escape the sometimes tedious task of load development. Load development means starting with a LOWER powder charge and working up to that "Pet Load" in a safe and methodical manner, always checking for signs of overpressure along the way. NEVER take a "Pet Load" and use it as a starting point.

In order to be considered for publication, you can submit your information in the following format:

Rifle Used
Barrel Maker, Contour, Gas Length/Port Size (if known)
Barrel Length and Twist
Magazine Brand/Size
Bullet Used (grain, manufacturer, type)
Powder Charge and Brand
Case Used
Primer Used
COAL
Chronograph Velocity, if known or manual velocity, if known.
Any issues or problems, Failure to Fire, Failure to Feed, Failure to Eject, etc. Keep it short.
Link to your "workup" thread

This is an example of a load that I worked up in my AR:
AR15
AR Stoner, Med Contour, Carbine
16", 1:8 5R
MagPul PMAG, 30RD & Custom 10RD (cut down 30RD mag)
110 gr Hornady V-Max
19.6gr Hodgdon Lil'Gun
LC 5.56, reformed to 300BLK
CCI 450 Small Mag
2.10"
2350 FPS (estimated, manual)
Zero Issues so far. All feed, fire, and eject fine.
N/A

Please ensure that your load info is in this format when submitted. Any loads that are incomplete are subject to deletion at any time.

Again, no chat or discussion allowed. Chat and discussion should be done in your individual "workup" thread that you link to.

Thanks!

Rifle Used : Aeroprecision AR-15 300 AAC Blackout 16"
Barrel maker, Contour, Gas Length/Port Size : Daniel Defense CHF, S2W Profile, Carbine/Unmodified
Barrel Length and Twist : 16", 1:8
Magazine Brand/Size : C Products USGI/10rd
Bullet Used (Grain, Manufacturer, Type) : 125gr, Speer TNT, HP
Powder Charge and Brand : 16.9gr IMR-4227
Case Used : PMC 223 cut down to 1.355" (Lee .223 size without mandrel, then 300aac FL size)
Primer Used : Wolf SRM (magnum)
COAL: 2.175" (max possible might be 2.20" with the Speer TNT but the bullet might fall out)
Chronograph Velocity: (unknown) Supersonic
Burro Canyon Shooting Range/Angeles Crest Shooting Range
Any issues or problems, Failure to Fire, Failure to Feed, Failure to Eject, etc : None.
This gun has proven to be reliable and flexible (never FTF/FTE with starting loads). It had zero issues with supersonic loads any starting load using every type of 223 brass converted, pmc, rp, fc, lc, prv, win, rem, etc. The DD barrel will eat ammo whether it has gone through the .223 die or not (probably loose chamber) unlike my AR pistol in 300aac. I didn't crimp these bullets, I will try the crimp on the next batch. I think it affected accuracy negatively
Never attempted sub sonic or "real" 300aac brass
IMR very easy powder to handle unlike H110...the powder "rods" are huge, don't stick to my powder handling tools, very easy to get the exact charge fast.
Noticed bullet drops more (point of impact lower due to lower velocity) compared to 17.5gr of h110 but shot consistency is good.

I shot this the other day at Angeles Crest 100yds off my backpack with the load above. I think my Strikefire reddot might've gotten loose too. The LaRue sight in grid is Tiny and the grey boxes are covered completely by the 4moa dot on the strikefire. this is my 2nd time shooting the above AR15 since I assembled it; probably has 125 shots through the gun. I have never shot factory/retail 300aac before so I have no comparisons. I am noob to AR15 and to reloading.

Got it... here goes: I built my 300 BLK from the gound up, using DSArms for barrel, YHM for lower receiver, All Magpul furniture, Palme. trigger group, Spike Tactical H2 buffer, Jerry Miculek Compenstator, Aimpoint ML3 Optics,

Rifle Used : DSArms upper receiver / YHM lower reciever
Barrel Maker, Contour, Gas Length/Port Size (if known): Barrel DSArms, 16", Standard size
Barrel Length and Twist : 1-8
Magazine Brand/Size : Magpul 4 10/20 Dedicated FDE mags
Bullet Used (grain, manufacturer, type): So far Rem. 115gr
Powder Charge and Brand : IMR 4227, 17.4gn
Case Used : Remington 223 cut/sized down
Primer Used : CCI 400
COAL : 2.240 OAL ( I find this feeds very good in my Magpul mags.)
Chronograph Velocity, if known or manual velocity, if known.: Not Known
Any issues or problems, Failure to Fire, Failure to Feed, Failure to Eject, etc. Keep it short. : Zero failures, feeds and shoots great, accurate to 1 moa at 100 yards on purchased Rem. 115gr ammo. Handloads to be determinded. On a bench with sand bags, free hand 2 to 3 inch max. spread. Low recoil with compensator, very fun to shoot.
