Load Catalog: Supersonic Lil'Gun, 110gr through 150gr

Post by bamachem »

This thread is a compilation of "Pet Loads" that others have contributed for publication. No chat and no discussion of loads. You can provide a link in your post for the "workup" of the load if you choose to post one.

Any loads listed are what have worked for others, but does not mean that they will work for you or your specific firearm. Pet Loads are NOT a shortcut nor a quick and cheap way to escape the sometimes tedious task of load development. Load development means starting with a LOWER powder charge and working up to that "Pet Load" in a safe and methodical manner, always checking for signs of overpressure along the way. NEVER take a "Pet Load" and use it as a starting point.

In order to be considered for publication, you can submit your information in the following format:

Rifle Used
Barrel Maker, Contour, Gas Length/Port Size (if known)
Barrel Length and Twist
Magazine Brand/Size
Bullet Used (grain, manufacturer, type)
Powder Charge and Brand
Case Used
Primer Used
COAL
Chronograph Velocity, if known or manual velocity, if known.
Any issues or problems, Failure to Fire, Failure to Feed, Failure to Eject, etc. Keep it short.
Link to your "workup" thread

This is an example of a load that I worked up in my AR:
AR15
AR Stoner, Med Contour, Carbine
16", 1:8 5R
MagPul PMAG, 30RD & Custom 10RD (cut down 30RD mag)
110 gr Hornady V-Max
19.6gr Hodgdon Lil'Gun
LC 5.56, reformed to 300BLK
CCI 450 Small Mag
2.10"
2350 FPS (estimated, manual)
Zero Issues so far. All feed, fire, and eject fine.
N/A

Please ensure that your load info is in this format when submitted. Any loads that are incomplete are subject to deletion at any time.

Again, no chat or discussion allowed. Chat and discussion should be done in your individual "workup" thread that you link to.

Thanks!

Pulled and Resized 148 gr 7.62X54R FMJ Silver Tip bullets
.311" sized to .308 using Lee .308 sizing die and Alox lube that came with the sizing die
See pulling and sizing thread here: viewtopic.php?f=141&t=83030&start=10

Savage Axis .223 Converted to 300 BLK
BFG, Sporter Contour
16.5", 1:8
Savage Axis Mag holds 5 min mag, 1 in chamber
148 gr 7.62X54R FMJ Silver Tip Pulls, .311 sized to .308 using Lee .308 sizing die and Alox lube that came with the sizing die
16gr Hodgdon Lil'Gun
Mixed 223 brass, reformed to 300BLK
Remington 7 1/2 (7.5) Small Rifle primers
COAL: 2.155"
Avg: 1846 FPS via Magnetospeed Chronograph, Max 1912, Min 1756, SD 60
Temp: 84 degrees
Elevation: aprox 538 ft above see level
No pressure signs, no other issues with the bolt gun loading, ejection, or operation

Shot same rounds out of AR with no issues:
AAC 16" upper on Rock River Arms Lower, with RRA 2 stage trigger
16" Medium Contour AAC barrel, Carbine Gas, 1:7
20 rnd L5 Lancer mags. (2) no mods (filled to no more than 10 rounds)
Did not chrono from AR.
No issues. Bolt held open on last shot. Cycled with no problems.

Picture time:
I was shooting from 25 yds away and was not aiming for accuracy and was dialing the scope the whole time while playing around/plinking. At one point my scope mount came loose, I had only hand tightened it. I will get the torque wrench out and tighten appropriately soon.

Left from bolt gun, right from AR
Image

IGNORE the bottom two targets those were my initial 208 AMax loads shot from my bolt gun but at 84 degrees they were Avg fps: 1191 so no good for subsonic :(
Image

This is all the same pulled bullet round from the AR and dialing in the scope a bit more. I didn't shoot for accuracy but was surprised at how well I and the round did for not trying.
