A1680 Load Check

Post by Tothemax! »

Ok I'm going off the chart that Accurate powders lists for the 300 Blackout.

I loaded up a few rounds of 147gr pulls with 18.5grains of A1680, along with a few of with 19.0

Does this look correct? The cases looked pretty dang full.

I don't have anything for 147 gr but do have this . . .

A 1680 - 150 gr Sierra HPBT MK [19.4 gr 1850 FPS] [21.6 gr 2,086 FPS] COL 2.15

I'll try to find the PDF I got this from, look around I think I found the link somewhere here in this forum.

Compressed loads are not unusual but AFAIK I have not seen any for 300 Blackout.

According to the accurate chart I could possibly load up too 21.6 with a 150gr fmjbt.

If I'm reading the chart correctly that was posted above, the load I put together is close to max. Is that correct?

I am just curious. I a-s-s-u-m-e you are using WC680. I also use WC680 for loading subsonic 220gr SMK bullets. My jug is marked "BAJ47269". It takes 12.1gr A1680 (all other load parameters are the same) to give the identical average velocity that 11.7gr WC680 gives (same rifle) (approximately the same accuracy, but the point of impact is about a half inch away at 34 yd). If you are using WC680, is your lot the same as mine? If you are using WC680, how have you found it to match up with A1680 in regards to charge weight Vs velocity?

Again, I'm just curious. I only had one 8 lb jug of WC680. Since it is not available anymore and I have more 220gr SMK bullets than my 8 lb will load, I worked up an equivalent A1680 load. That is when I found (with my rifle) that there was some difference between my lot of WC680 and canister grade A1680.

Thanks

I have w680 n a1680..

11.5 of current A1680 gives me: av=969, sd=36, es=110, hi=1032, lo=921 with the pulled 220 SMKs
Long distance, the next best thing to being there!

Yes, Its WC680, Lot #47271

I am running SS rounds using the milsurp 147g M80 projectiles, and have been averaging in the 1850fps range, so about 75fps off of what Quickload states. Keep in mind that QL is estimates as well, so you cannot always bank on that, and of course it is always wise to use a few different sources. I will say that I have been very happy with this loadup. I have a 16" Wilson Combat barrel and use a Trijicon 1.5 ACOG. At 50 yards I am grouping about 2 inch groups or better, I am in NorCal at 85ft above sea level, and ran the chrono on a pretty warm day, probably low 80's.

This is with 2 different uppers, the Red X obviously does not shoot as well, not bad for a low dollar upper, but the Wilson is much better.

I talked to one of the guys at accurate today and he told me everything should be GTG if I follow that chart. He said go with the 150 data as it is the closest in weight. He also mentioned that A1680 was very compatible and that they compacted it 125%?
