soft point problem

Post by 93notch »

Hey everyone i am having a problem with my rifle. It will not full close the bolt on any soft left point round, I can run 208 gr sub sonics down to the 110 grain tac tx but my cheap 168 gr soft lead point bullets will not full seat in. The bolt does not go fully closed. I dont know what is causing this. My other rifle had no issues with them. But this new 8.5 inch will not take them at all.

Are they cast lead bullets? If not, who makes them and what bullet is it? If the ogive is too steep (for lack of better description) you need to shorten your OAL

I agree, all bullet profiles are NOT created equal!

Look at this pic of three different 125g 308 dia projectiles.

The two on the left are standard style profiles and likely would allow similar seating depths. But look at the Remington bullet on the right... Looks like it went into a pencil sharpener. This one would require different seating depths.

Similar to Amax. Try sating deeper with a dummy round to find working OAL.
