H110 or Lil Gun

Post by Gato »

Based on those that have utilized both powders, and looking at my set up and intended uses, which powder would you recommend and why?

Reloading Base – Dillon 550
Dies – Forster, Lee Factory Crimp
Powder Die - Dillon

Brass – Converted, mixed head stamp

Bullet – Sierra 125 OTM

Unit – 1st Generation (1/8) AAC 9” upper. BCM lower with H2 buffer. AAC SDN6

Range of Engagement – 25YD – 150YD

Accuracy Desired – Other than getting it sighted in, everything I do is generally unsupported and geared towards minute of 6” steel gong at the aforementioned distances.

From a consumption standpoint, it looks as if both powders run a min/max of ~16.5 to ~18.4.

Any particular reason to choose one over the other given the description provided?

Thanks.

LilGun

It flows better. Less static clinging. ... re temp stability. I'm not so sure H110 s any better. LilGun may be better than the old H110/win 296. LilGun is less temp sensitive than h110/W296 IMHO.. and i am a real fan of W296

Snip
No I don't know of any Lil'Gun problems. I've heard/read about them but until I see it I don't believe it. I stay in contact with the folks at Hodgdon powder and they stand by it. It works just like H110 but is less temperature sensitive and is more consistent lot to lot. Not loaded to same charge weight but similar otherwise. I just ran through three pounds of it this past month with some good weather down here and shot everything from 44 to 500 S&W including the 45 Colt and 454 and it was very good.

Another snip
LilGun will give same speed at lower pressure and better speed at same pressure, great stuff. I’ve found nothing that can better Lilgun’s numbers in big caliber handguns. And H110/W296 (they are the same powder) is a bad one to light in the cold where LilGun lights just fine.

LilGun is the new improved 296/h110 IMHO
Long distance, the next best thing to being there!
