Post by TAW3W7 »

First post. Trying to get good data on the new bullet but posting and web are pretty flat! Anyone had success with this load sub-sonic?

welcome!
I do not think a 110 sub would have enough impulse to cycle an AR
most subs are 208 - 220 grain bullets
and 110s are driven to 2200 fps or more

You assume he wants to put it in an AR. 8)

People are running bolt guns, Ya know!

I find it hard to shoot subs in this light of a weight in the BLK. The difference between sealing the chamber, getting enough pressure to get a consistent burn, and going supersonic is within the ES range. It is just FAIL.

I can get 147's to shoot well at subsonic FPS using American Select in a bolt gun.

To cycle in an AR I have NOT gotten 175 SMKs to run with 1680. The eject and Supersonic are at the same charge. I may be able to get 190's to eject but not hold the bolt back .. THIS IS WITH A SILENCER.

208s run fine in the AR.

I have spent months playing with subs in the Micro7... I really wanted the 90 gr .309 pistol bullet to go at 1000 fps since it is designed to open (expand) at 900 fps. I just could not do it with the powders I had on hand. I will try Bullseye. But it needs a VERY VERY fast powder to seal the chamber and NOT go super. It just might be to hard to do w/o drilling flash holes etc.

There is really not point in shooting the Black tip bullets as subs they will not expand at 1000 fps. for 1/4 the price you can shoot something else that will have much more power. In my bolt gun the 147-152 pulled bullets work well for a cheap load. In cast bullets I have a very nice 210 gr and 190 gr load. Using the fast pistol powders I can get low ES and single digit SD MUCH better than the Gas gun loads. The bonus is they are a LOT quieter even w/o a silencer. With your silencer on at 1025 fps they are pellet gun quiet. At 950 FPS they are firing pin drop quiet.

Thanks for the help. I loaded 5 up at 1041fps using quick load and at 100m the bullet had zero expansion!

No one thinks it will expand below 1300 fps.

I'm not sure how they are getting 6.3gr of Trailboss into the case. I just tried 5.7gr and it fills the case right to the bottom of the neck. I suspect an additional 0.6gr of powder would be well into the neck and I read that it is a very bad idea to compress Trailboss.

I can say that Trailboss is exceptionally quiet. My loads metered at 121 dB out of an integrally suppressed 12" barrel. 8)

a friend got 6.3gr trail boss in 300 blk cases no problem, with plenty of space to seat 110gr bullets.

using the data for the 110 I loaded up some 90 gr HP XTP pistol bullets. 4.3 gr = about 1000 fps SD 25

Shot accurately at back yard ranges at 35 yards in a nickle size just farting around ... This is a 16" Micro 7 with the 1:8 twist.

I would have thought the Trail Boss woudl be to slow Seems to work well. :-) This bullet is made to expand at 850-900 fps. This will be good for small critters/pest elimination. It is better than a subsonic 223 for sure.

Thanks for posting this data.
