Dillon 550B Set Up

Post by socal425 »

I have a 550B, currently loading 223. My propose set-up is: Redding 2-set die for 300 BLK with a Dillon AK powder funnel. I understand that I can use my existing shell plate. Is this all I'll need to get the 550B going? I plan on buying reformed brass from members on this site. Any input is greatly appreciated.

That should be all you need to change..... The AK powder funnel should work fine and the shellplate/locator buttons are the same as your 223 setup..... The part number for the powder funnel is AK - 13015....

Yep, that's the one.
It's labeled 7.62x39/300Whisper/300Savage on the Dillon site.

if reloading for a semi-auto (or full auto)
I would recommend a LEE FCD

Can you use a 308 crimp die? I am setting my 550 up and have the rcbs 2 die set for 300blk. I have the dillon 308 dies already.

I wish I could, but the only 308 crimp die I have is a collet type that operates on COL :(
Kinda ironic... I have 5 different die sets for various 30 cal cartridges... And nothing I have will work to crimp my blackout!

I'm kinda trying to ask my question in your thread. I have a dillon 308 three die set. Can I use the crimp die for 300blk? I'm staring at the toolhead right now. I've never done anything but straight wall pistol cases so far.

I have a question for those loading rifle on the 550.

Do you let the powder funnel expand the case mouth? If so, do you still chamfer and de-bur when you previously trim the brass?

Thanks.

The rifle powder funnels don't flare the case mouth like they do on the pistol dies.
