Ran some Lil Gun and 208's today. I run a .125" gas port with my own adj block.
8" BA Barrel/YHM .30 can
Std car buffer/spring
Port full open position

9.4gr Lil Gun at 2.146 OAL Runs fine S/a and F/A. BHO on last round. Subsonic.
9.6gr Ran fine but SS.

Much quieter to the ear than my A1680/10.5gr Subsonic loads with the same bullet and same OAL.

With the gas closed off its bolt gun quiet.

I'll run it through the chrono on sat and post some data.

Also trying RL7 this weekend.

ES was almost cut in half, next chrony session I'll shoot a larger control group for a GOOD comparison.

Methinks you'll like the RL7.

Any suggestions for load with 208's and RL7 ? Same rifle as above. I read 11gr was working in a 16". Thanks, Todd

Ahhhh. I think this is the Achilles heel of the BLK. It is very unforgiving as a hand loading round. Factory ammo may be much more consistent, but when hand loading the bullet pull seems to really effect the ES, making it unforgiving.

I now anneal my brass each reloading making the bullet pull more even. I have never run into a round that is so temperamental as the blk. But in all practicality since it is mostly a <200 yard round it makes little difference.

The more I reload it and the more i shoot it, the more I realize the BLK's limitations, and benefits. It's no 6.5 MPC. The BLK is by far a better subsonic round. I shoot a lot of subs. So the blk works for me. However if I was hunting with supers I would go 6.5 MPC for sure. I reload only so the MPC not having factory ammo is meaningless. The flatter shooting higher energy of the 6.5 MPC makes it an obvious choice over the BLK if and only if subsonic shooting i not on your menu.

But I shoot a lot of .30, so the BLK gets a lot of press time. If you are not shooting subs, then you might benefit looking into the 6.5 MPC. I shoot a lot of subs so the BLB is a better choice for me.

Lil Gun sure seems to be a good powder for the BLK!

Have you tried a crimp? A uniform crimp may make up for the issue with case mouth tension. Also do you seperate your brass ie sub brass and super brass because we know the supers burn a little hotter. As far as lil gun powder goes I have heard rumors of pressure spikes with temperature changes.

Have you been able to chrono the RL7 and 208's? Also how is that combination working out for you? Do you like it?

I am running A1380 with SMK 220gr at 10.9gr and it's running beautiful...under 1050 with average 1040. Running AAC 9" upper with SD can. I was actually able to run it with 9gr with no problems at all. You could actually see the bullet hitting the target at 50 yards. Chrono was between 540 to 600 fps. This upper is bad ass! not one FTE/FTF out of the 500rds that I've put through.

Thanks

Hello,

Just back from the range this hot afternoon, temp was 92 degrees, elevation about 1200'. No suppressor yet.

16" AR-Performance barrel
A1 buffer tube, rifle buffer and spring, I dislike the carbine/collapsible stocks so I have one of the skeleton stocks.

Hornady 150gr BTSP
21.5gr AA2200 Surplus from late 90's
Wolf .223 Primer
OAL 2.145
Velocity 1747 Avg, 9 SD
Temp 92, Elevation 1200'
Primers well rounded, no signs of excess pressure, bolt held open 100%.
