Anyone loaded AA5744 for subs?

Can't get A1680 locally but do have AA5744 which is designed for relatively small charges in large cases.

Interested in 220 SMKs and 311-247 cast boolits. Have a 16" bbl with a pistol length gas system.

Oh god.......I wouldn't even want to be alive if that was the case, luckily that's not the case for me.

Barrel was made by Paladin Machine Services on Douglas SS stock. They do beautiful machine work!

The approach of using a three way gas block on the shorter gas system allows a much wider selection of powders to be used across the spectrum of bullet weights.

If you have a gas port designed for the 300W/300-221 you don't need 1680, in fact it might run faster than optimal.

No reason to use an exotic powder designed for cast bullet loads in large cases, just use old 300W data.

Is 2200 fps too much hope for out of a 125gr bullet using W296?

I keep AA5744 on hand to load cast ammo for 9,3x62, 9,3x74R, .376 Steyr, .376/.416 Steyr Improved, .458 AR, and .470 Nitro Express. So for me it is not an exotic powder. The .376/.416 Steyr Imp has been a particularly good cast bullet rifle ... sometimes giving clover leaves at 100 yards.

H110 has been know to be a bit finicky (perhaps position sensitive) and there was recently a kaboom with it and 208 gr Amax's reported on the Whisper Forum. Seems uncertain if it was due to an overcharge or an SEE event. SEE events are more likely as charges are reduced.

Except for 2400 the other pistol powders I have on hand are a bit too fast for the 311-247 cast projectile. So far the AA5744 is very promising. Time will tell.
